Popell;4395437 I would sunsequently check the valve clearances haven't altered due to a slack locknut if the coil prognosis brings no improvement. [/QUOTE said:
........ He shoots, he scores.....Maybe, isn't there a cam chain tensioner or summat on the LSH?

My guess was slack lock nut on one of the valve clearance adjusters.

But your comment re rattle on lhs reminded me of something I read about there being a chain tensioner on the left side, I think!

Finally have a resolution, front crash bar was replaced fouling the belt cover and the resulting vibes had caused the screen fixings to loosen resulting in the vibration and racket amplified by the larger Wunderlict screen. So its not terminal, and I did have cause to be concerned but thanks to a very helpful person in Brierly Hill, its finally put to bed. Thanks to everyone for the helpful ideas/

Well done Reg :thumb2

Would I be right in thinking you have now removed the crash bar ready to install into the dealers sphincter tomorrow morning?

Maybe 20 years ago Paul, but I have a theory that we are all human, and the fix was very inexpensive so why get wound up? Had some real expensive stuff hit the fan well, thats another matter. I have been forgiven in the past when I have not quite got it right, let him without sin, be the first to cast a stone! Big Up though for the guy who sussed it out, Diamond geezer IMHO.

Not happy with the bike after all the efforts of forum members and our long awaited holiday in France only 3 weeks away I took it into a local dealer for a once over, within 20 minutes of a test ride on an LC 1200 GS (which was bloody awful) they rang me to say in their opinion the noises my bike was making were terminal and they would not touch it with a bargepole. Ring a friend who offers to sell me his identical bike to mine so I did the deed and purchased another 1200gs, complete revelation, Thank God I didn't ignore the advice and wing it with mine to France, only rode the "new" bike the length of the pub car park to realise my worst suspicions, my bike is really fxxked. So, I ned someone reliable to take this thing on and sort it, I am out of ideas and am willing to pay someone to put it right. Any takers out there?

I had an engine crash bar come loose. It sounded exactly like a serious engine knock as in no oil. A mechanic simply listening to the engine noise could easily decide that it's a major crankshaft problem.

If it's a tappetty rattle then cam chain or loose locknut could be the cause. Neither are terminal issues but could cause damage and at BMW prices never cheap to fix.

Mikeyboy to my rescue, diagnosed that when the cover was removed for replacement the gear operating the balancer was totally out of sync. That was the good news, Bad news, Final drive in its death throes. Ouch Ouch ouch!

That Mikeyboy is good. Love the way the dealer dismissed it and wouldn't touch it.
