My bikes not right?????

Have I missed something here? The bike just had a full service and very shortly it runs terribly, you take it back and they say the bike is fucked?

Are there some large pieces of the puzzle missing in the story? :nenau

Mikeyboy to my rescue, diagnosed that when the cover was removed for replacement the gear operating the balancer was totally out of sync. That was the good news, Bad news, Final drive in its death throes. Ouch Ouch ouch!

It's hardly terminal (thankfully). A few hundred quid for Mikeyboy to work his magic on the final drive and sort out the balancer shaft issue and you should be good to go again, assuming the FD just needs new bearings and seals.

I have more faith in Mikeyboy than the original Non Franchised Technician, the accolades just keep coming for this guy, the member who recommended him has a reputation for Stella Mileage and would never allow anyone else to fettle his machines. Its just tha this all came about at completely the wrong time both time scale & financially for me. So, who wants to buy a Mint 2005 Red 1200GS at the end of this month? One has to go!

Is this Stella the posh beer or some posh burd called Stella?

Mikey sorted out my FD when the bearings failed. He also did the trunnion and replaced the rear UJ on the drive shaft. It wasn't a low cost job (is anything on a BMW?) but less cost than used parts and no worries about them being little better than my old FD etc.

Through to the backing shell ?

Whats the crank journal like ??

Cannot get micrometer in to measure with crank in situ.
Visually looks fine.
Awaiting OP,s permission to fully strip and investigate further,it's losing oil pressure somewhere!!
Unless its been run low/ without oil:confused:
Edit, the shell looks like it's been v.hot ,almost blued photos don't really show it very well.
Low oil ,no oil ,worn or damaged main bearings.:comfort
For all I know the OP might be the grand master of the 3 mile wheelie
One things for certain, there's something unusual gone on,hopefully its not fucked:blast

Is it just me but something just doesn't sound right with this thread.....

Fills me with no end of confidence reading that an "unstoppable" machine's engine could be significantly cattled in 30k miles. And with a nadgered final drive to put the icing on the cake. It only needs the gearbox to self-destruct to make the full set.

If the owner didn't bother to top up and change the oils as required it wouldn't be at all surprising it's now in a right state. This bike is no fair representation of the model as a whole. I commented at #63 (as did Phil at #73) there is something not right with OP's thread, never mind the bike.

No thats not a Hexhead, you need a WC for that particular built in accessory :blast:D:augie

The OP of this unfortunate machine is a very fastidious and mechanically sympathetic person as Mikeyboy is experiencing. Until I know all the facts relating to this sorry episode I will keep my opinions to myself. As should others on this thread. The truth will out eventually. My only crime here has been misplaced trust in so called experts. Nuff said for now.

Someone hasn't been fastidious or sympathetic at some point in the last 11 years if the engine & final drive are fooked at a claimed 30k....
