Mikeyboy to my rescue, diagnosed that when the cover was removed for replacement the gear operating the balancer was totally out of sync. That was the good news, Bad news, Final drive in its death throes. Ouch Ouch ouch!
Cannot get micrometer in to measure with crank in situ.Through to the backing shell ?
Whats the crank journal like ??



If the owner didn't bother to top up and change the oils as required it wouldn't be at all surprising it's now in a right state. This bike is no fair representation of the model as a whole. I commented at #63 (as did Phil at #73) there is something not right with OP's thread, never mind the bike.Fills me with no end of confidence reading that an "unstoppable" machine's engine could be significantly cattled in 30k miles. And with a nadgered final drive to put the icing on the cake. It only needs the gearbox to self-destruct to make the full set.
