On a different note my GPS's time also did a reset 2 weeks ago and still need to figure out why...

Ok the time plot revealed itself to me last night :stupid Was driving down the A2 collecting a ebay jacket from some dude in Kent when it hit me like a ton of bricks.
My GPS time was wrong due to 2 reasons:
1. I was looking at the ETA which of course could be anything from minutes to hours different to the real time:o
2. I Never corrected the time zones on my GPS coming back from South-Africa in November.

On the bright side all well in time land again and mistery solved:D

Zebedee,
Do you have an alarm on your machine? If so, this could be the power drain. Even with alarm off the solenoid is open and using power. A plug in charger should sort you out. Happens me all the time. But then I'm only a fair weather biker.

And still no one has cracked my problem.

Fuse 3 OK
Battery OK
Clock keeps perfect time when ignition on.
RID display also working fine with ignition on.
Connector under tank too bloody tight to pull apart and check.

I guess its back to SPC's for some qualified assistance. :(

My clock has also reset itself twice recently. My ABS has also not been setting itself when I first pull away. If I stop up the road, switch the ignition off and on it's OK.

The one thing I've noticed is that it's only happened (clock & ABS) after the temperature has fallen to below or near freezing overnight and my bike lives outside.

Hmmm....

Cheers

Good thread chaps.

Encountered the problem this morning (clock and 12v socket) and a quick search turned up this thread. The clock I can live without, it's the heated jacket I'm missing.

Time to stock up on some spare fuses - can I get these from any bike shop or is it a trip to BMW?

Any motor factors should do them and most will be a darned sight cheaper than a dealer.

This may be a different problem - fuse? When my clock re-sets it then carries on from 00:00 to record time, indicating that it is still working and that there was a temporary interruptionin power.

I'm not mechanically gifted (not gifted at all, actually!) but my experience indicates its a cold weather problem. Does the cold make the engine or the engine oil "stiffer" and so harder to turn over thus requiring more power through the starter motor? Hence more power required from the battery.

My solution is to give it one or two short bursts on the starter (i.e. a second or so) and then give it a longer burst on the third go. Works for me without resetting the clock.

Mind you, I'd rather it started first go

Well my problem was the fuse. But it's gone again which means the problem is in the jacket. Coldest week of the year and my friggin' heated jacket packs up :(

Yep me too, I've got the same problem on my 1150. Although in the last few years in the cold I've only had the ABS problem. When my battery finally packed up last September I had it replaced, the only thing is, I was given a 19amp battery (the standard replacement from Solcombes) , the original was 20amps I think. I've had the clock thing happen to me now but more often than not in thiscold weather and it's starting to worry me that one day the bike will not start.

I'm going to start parking closer to my garage so that I can run the optimate out to it and see if that helps.

Oh yes and this morning my heated grips didn't heat up. I know it was cold but I even took my glove off to check. It wasn't the fuse and they did start working on my way home this evening.
