Hi All,

so i got my first Lampf! warning this morning. its the lowbeam bulb thats blown. Had a quick scoot on here and almost every one recommends the HID upgrade, but its not really an option for me as I can't afford it so i have to go down the standard H7 bulb route.

I saw on one thread that Philips X-Treme Power H7 80%brighter bulbs were recommended... I'd rather get something like this for the bike than a halfords special.

So i take it that these bulbs are good?

Also having never changed a bulb in the GS before, are there any decent instructions available (i don't have the manual to hand) detailing how to replace the bulb?

thanks for any advice.

There's a cover at the back that twists off to get access to the bulbs... 2 minute job, and the dip is the same as the main...

Stick with the standard ones and carry a spare :thumb

The high output bulbs have a much shorter lifespan than 'standard' halogen bulbs. I did the maths and it's actually much cheaper to buy a HID - they're so cheap these days...

So, if you're really broke, go to Halfords and get one of their value bulbs...

lol,

Perhaps mines from a bad batch! lol... it went at 7770(ish)mls.

I ordered the philips bulbs in the end. £27.85 delivered for a twin pack... online halfords cheapest that i could find is £24.99 for one.

I have 50 watt HID on dip, Ring 100% brighter Xenon on Main, and Philips Xtreme 80% brighter bulbs in the Hella FF50 spots that are wired into the main beam. As the higher output bulbs are only on for high beam they should last just fine and are much better than the standard bulbs. The problem with the dip beam on the 1200GS is that it's so poor you really need a HID to make some decent light output IMHO changing just the H7 won't make that much difference so may as well just get a cheapy and get night vision goggles.

And they claim the Ccots are tight? :hide

You'll get through them extra bright bulbs like smarties!!

I replaced the standard bulbs with philips extreme power when I got the bike last July.

They seem OK but the dip blew out whilst I was in Spain recently. Its only lasted 6000miles.

I have a stack of philips vision plus which are supposed to be a bit down on the extreme power so one of these has now gone in the main.

I had the misfortune of having the front low dip beam bulb blown out after some 21,000 miles whilst riding abroad. Too busy riding to stop and buy a replacement bulb, I continued with driving lights (BMW standard fog lights) on at all time for another 2,000 miles before I finally bought a standard Phillips H7 bulb for £5 and a few pence when back home! I dont bother with extra power bulbs because most of us do ride most of the time in broad daylight!!!! If you want extra light in the dark, just switch on fog lights! ;)
