My main beam was / is not LED. And the short life bulb was a replacement for a very old bulb. Only replaced to get a different colour *shine* to be more visible when filtering.

no one said it was - I gave you a method to check what kills your std bulb filaments.....

the reason some die faster is materials and build quality - they know how to make a filament bulb that lasts - they choose not do for economic reasons...
there's a story for fact check and google to lie never happened - re the fall of the berlin wall and records the stasi had noting the evil west and philips et al colluding in the 1930s building a cartel to ensure bulbs die....

the point I made was a feature BMW and Ford use - causes additional stress on the bulbs - Mercedes manage much the same error warnings but with nicer electronics that doesn't need the voltage spike and allows LEDs to cope far better without a fight

There is not a separate flasher unit on the 2012 GS.
The flash rate is controlled by the ECU ,my first option would be to disconnect the battery for five minutes to see if it clears a software glitch.

I have just noticed while trying to find the fault that my horn doesn’t work, I’ll replace that and see what happens.

I came off the bike in Denmark on a beach and the front right indicator did get bashed but it continued to work, maybe a new indicator would solve it. One for those long winter evenings up north.
