my new 1200GS 2010 CRIES..!!!

Hello everybody..
I have a 2010 GS, with 1500 kms under the clock... Since new, I´m hearing a high pitch noise, kind of a warning alarm, coming from the box controlling the exhaust valve.... this noise its been frecuently heard when the cambus does its checks routine every morning, before starting the engine, but once engine is started and running, this noise is gone...

please share some light, as this noise is driving me crazy, and I dont know if this have to do with just a valve check cambus routine, and is considered normal, or perhaps my new 2010 exhaust valve is malfunctioning, and therefore is warning me the exhaust valve is not working...
 
What did your dealer say ?
They should have come across this on others or get it into them and let them sort it for you.
Last thing you want is to cause any problems for your new baby!

They´ve just hooked up my bike to the main computer and ran the diagnostic programm, and it passes without any faults...

arrgghhhh this is driving me crazy....

I think this is normal - I suspect that the ECU is just initialising the valve position at start of play.
 
I have a 2010GSA:D, and yes, there is a noise from the 'exup' when you switch on the ignition.

Don't find it annoying though, just part of the bike.

But it is not just a noise....it is like a warning high pitch whining, and it doesnt stop whatsoever... only if you start the engine or if you turn the ignition on and off for a second time, it goes away..... it is not just a check.

When you turn the ignition on, during the canbus check routine, you can hear the valve open and closes, but afterwards it starts to whine indefinitely... like a warning alarm...

We have other 2010 models here, and my bike is the only one with this whining...

It is not always however, its like an intermitent issue, it becomes more and more noticeable during the mornings, when I turn on my bike early ... this is getting me crazy... my others partners 2010 doesnt make any whining sound even during the mornings...

Do I get a Faulty exhaust valve motor....?? is a recall for this valve comming soon...?
 
A warning alarm early in the morning…..er..is this a wind-up.:mmmm

My friend, take the bike back to your BMW dealer and get them to sort it out.:thumb

One of my mates has a 2010 GSA...no strange noises from his bike.:nenau

Oh dear. That does not sound good at all. It will be interesting to hear if other "lucky" 2010 owners have heard similar. I expect Columbian dealers may be more interesting to deal with....:augie
 
I think your solenoid valve is remaining energised and this is what is causing the whine. After a time there is a chance it will fail because of this so get BMW to fit a new exhaust valve as it is not fit for purpose.

Press them to do it and the noise will go away.:aidan

Take the silencer off and have a look at the cat.Have had one with exactly the same symptoms as you've described and it had a faulty cat which had blown itself to bits and jammed the exhaust valve. If its jammed shut the bike maybe cutting out frequently or if its jammed open the valve may be trying to close
