I finally got to try out my new Tour X3 this weekend, and was really surprised at the amount of wind noise, compared to my old Arai Chaser.:blast

The helmet looks fantastic, as it's the new 2012 colours, but I was disappointed at the level of noise over about 60mph, even with ear plugs in. Is this normal? Will I get used to it?

Somebody re-assure me please.:comfort

Yep they're very noisy and chilly in winter, either get used to it or flog it cheap on here:D

Funny that as my Shoei Hornet bought off of here is much quieter tha my old schuberth concept....

Tested by riding the length of the M4 with both and being able to hear the music on my phone when using the Shoei but not with the concept.

Live with it

I can assure you that you are quite correct - they are very noisy :D

I believe that the LWD / LWR paint jobs seem to have a peculiar whining all their own ;-)

They are a great helmet but noise is inevitable considering its a mx lid with a visor - it will never be a cosy as an integral but then nothing else will look as cool on a GS :D

Mine fits my odd shaped head perfectly.

Wore it on my euro trip with Mutley this year using a scala rider and no ear plugs, and it presented zero issues to me, including wind noise (I was listening to music & chatting with his nibs too)....even on the 'odd' occasion when I went over 60 mph.....:augie

Next year, I'll be using custom fit plugs, so I'll have even less issues with anything concerning le lid....:thumb2

Not necessarily ........ as I have said several times elsewhere on the forum, I have found the custom plugs magnified the wind noise and make the noise identical to the noise you'd have if someone was blowing into your ear (without the romantic associations !) if you don't have music going through them

Trouble is you won't know 'til you've spilled the cash for a pair.

They do make the intercom and iPhone fantastic though.

I'll just learn to live with it, as I'd rather look cool on the GS than be comfortable.:D:blast

+1:blast Just bought a SHOEI hornet on saturday, though haven't tried it yet:thumb2 tour x3 gave me blured vision above 60mph,could have been the clever built in jap speed restrictor though:nenau:

Usually down to the peak vibrating in dirty air coming off the screen and making your eyeballs vibrate. I've got both a Tour X and a Hornet and find the Hornet better in that respect, although there's still a low-pitched thrum that stops if you reach up and grab the front of the peak.

I noticed the blurred vision at speed as well. Other than not going fast, what does everyone else do to get around this? I find it strange that these helmets have so many issues, yet sell in such large volumes.:nenau

Feckin Ewan and Charley again.:blast:D

Over priced and over rated ,if your concerned with safety look at the sharp tests , some of the top brands are rated very low on safety but look nice

+1 :thumb2 There is a reason that you see so many Tour X3s advertised on this and other forums with the "hardly used" tag....THEY ARE CRAP AT SPEED. They are not a touring lid.

Depending on your set up there are other dual sport lids that have a better sharp rating, cost half the price and are allot quieter. However, with all the vents and peaks the laws of physics are going to make it noisier than a good road lid.....this really isn't difficult!

The reason I know this is because I am the poser/twat who has bought, tried, failed, sold, lost money on a good selection of them and always turn back to my Shoei Qwest.

....I wonder if the X lite is any good......:blast

Well after some messing about with the screen, I can report back that the Tour X3 is a great helmet!:beerjug: No vibes at up to 100mph and loads less wind noise (about the same as my Arai Chaser).:thumb

I thought I'd made a big mistake initially, but am pleased with my choice now.:blast:D

If anyone with a TourX is having similar problems, play around with your screen, you may find the problems disappear!:rob

I always have either music or conversation piped through, so all good on that front...:thumb2

I did wear 'custom-ish' plugs some time ago, and genuinely didn't experience an amplification of wind noise...:D
