I had an xl500r. It was a gutless pile of shite with the worst headlight I've ever known Dread to think how slow a 250 would be. When my cylinder head inevitably screwed up at 25k the specialist said it had done well to last that long. Plain bearing camshaft in an ally cylinder head = timebomb.

i had an XL600R I rode all over Western Europe, did several enduros on and after 32k traded it in against a R80GS for what I had paid for it two years before. Great bike and I would have one again tomorrow; but since breaking my right femur there is no way on earth I could get one started these days!
