The new Honda Blackbird looks good

The ‘Bird was a fabulous bike as long as it fitted you. I bought mine intending to use it touring France when I moved over there, but despite bar risers and the VFR bars mods it just didn’t work for me. Didn’t help when my new wife briefly sat pillion, and on being asked if she would go bike touring, replied “OK, but not on that!”

When I worked for Honda I rode the Russel Savory 50th Edition V&M tuned 1200 version on the IOM flat out on the straight between Laxey and Douglas for less than 10 seconds, no idea of the speed but it was like warp speed on Star Trek, crazy quick! Then it occurred to me that if Brer Rabbit came out the hedges my arse would stop skipping across the Irish Sea somewhere just outside Liverpool, so I backed off dramatically and pottered back into Douglas.

Sadly I missed out on the Blackbird. 2002 I booked a test ride on a VFR 800 and a Blackbird. I remember it so well. Got off the VFR and the salesmen greeted me with the keys to the Bird. I said to him "Don't bother mate I'll take this" Don't get me wrong I loved the VFR800 it was the bike I had for years but I should have tried them both.

My wife was completely the other way round. Didn’t like the Hayabusa seat at all. She didn’t like that it was stepped up so put her into the wind. The Blackbird she found much more comfortable. The there is the obvious difference in building quality of the Honda over the Suzuki. I don’t know if it’s still the same but Honda build quality was hands down better than Suzuki.
Horses for courses I guess.

Honda build quality isn't what it was IMHO, not that it matters greatly, if you baby your bikes & get in the nooks & crannies with ACF50 occasionally. UK road salt is the leveller.

I thought the Blackbird was dead uncomfortable, and had 2 ZZR 1100/1200s.
Bought a GSX1400 which was comfy, if not a little blingy.
Then had a CB1300 which was supremely comfortable.
Waited and waited for the VFR1200, but alas that was no sports tourer, and uncomfortable.

That is when I switched to BMW for the next 12 years.

Now on a KTM which even with the comfort seat is uncomfortable.

The old Blackbird got far too hot in the Southern European climate, unbearbly so,
