okay.. here goes.. most of you will have seen my thread about my R80 bitza.. Now I'm tempted by something new.. So I need help putting a value on her before I put her up for sale:

Original build thread:

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165865

She started life as an R80RT 1986 vintage.

Current spec:

Starting at the front end:

R90/6 forks, yokes, brake & hub - which has been laced to a new 21 inch BMW rim with stainless spokes (shod in brand new metzler enduro 1 tyre and fitted with heavy duty inner tube).. oh and new wheel bearings/shimming!
R80G/S handlebars, handgaurds and mirrors (all new)
R80 switchgear & handlebar mounted brake reservior
High level trails mudguard.
Vapor universal digital dash (speed, rev, temp and time)
R80RT headlight, with warning lamps fitted for oil pressure and charging.

Main Frame,Engine, tank, carbs and electrics are standard.. exhaust is made up from stainless R80/7 front pipes and bonnieville silencers joined by custom made stainless link pipes.

Sub frame, swingarm/driveshaft, rear wheel/brake etc are all from R90/6.

Rear shocks are meant for Kwak Z750 (new).. They measure 365mm between the eyes and as such give the same ride height as a R80G/S would have... rear wheel has been shod again in a new metzler enduro 1 tyre (again new heavy duty inner tube)

Seat is a police single seat item.. new from motobins.

Engine guards are std R80 jobs.. not new but in good nick.

Rear mudgaurd is a universal trails style job with built in light.

She runs well (a little loud but I'll be fitting some baffles into the pipes for MOT)... pulls really well.. no nasty noises.. I've probably done 30 miles on her (took her for an mot - failed on noisy exhausts) and about 5 miles of light off road on my local farm.

okay.. I know what I have spent building her.. shes great fun.. not perfect.. but I think she would make someone a very good light green laner or sunday run about.. I'm still not 100% sure if I want to sell something I have put so much time/effort and money into.. But the hankering for an R100PD is pretty strong!

As I say I will put an MOT on her once I get back from holiday and before I put her up for sale.

So ladies and gents... your thoughts please..:D

Hmmm.. would that be a blue one? lol.. As I say I'm not sure I want to sell the old girl.. But if I want the PD then I guess she has to go.. I'm just sounding out what people think she is worth?

Cracking bike Grommit :thumb2:thumb2
Rear tyre is a Metzler 2 Enduro...
I'm just being pedantic and "bumping" this great looking bike back up the list..

Price :blast I actually don't know, it's very nice indeed but I can't work a price out cos I wouldn't want to sell it..
Sorry
:(:rob

Looks like a 1960's bike...needs a high silencer and TKC 80's though :)
Looks like the front brake may work  ... what is it like in the braking dept?
Good little project ( expensive though I bet ?) so putting a price on her is going to be difficult as we all have different opinions etc etc

I'd say about £1,750 ( hey don't murda me, just my humble opinion :D)

Get a few opinions and then bung her in the FS & W:thumb2

Feck me are you and Rob a double act? He says people are artificially pushing prices higher, far higher than they are worth and you come along and suggest this bitsa is worth as much as £1750 :D

As Cookie says not even close - I guess its BMW's fault for making so many parts bin specials - but this isn't close to being special though it is perhaps unique :eek

500 sheets which is twice what Civil will offer you for it

Well.. thats quite the variation! 500 > 1750!

I've been watching various R series bikes on fleabay for a while and even rough ones make about 600/700 quid.. Even swesty's "bitza" sold recently and very quickly on this site for 500 quid with no mot, not running smooth and no-where near the condition or spec of this one (no offence meant there swesty).

I'm not insulted by the comments.. but I think that there maybe some political issues on the site to do with prices at the moment.

As I say I'm in no rush to sell her.. So I think my best bet is to go with my gut instinct and price her at what I feel she is worth.. And before anyone pipes up, I know that the bike is not worth every penny I have put into her!

So.. once I get back from my holiday at the end of the month I think I'll be putting her on fleabay... I will put her up in the FS&W too.. But from the above I dont expect people to jump at the price I have in mind (its somewhere between the two extremes above).

Thanks for the thoughts though guys

:D J

After sleeping on this pricing lark, I [imho] think it's got to be worth around £1100 + as it's ready to use......
Fettle to your hearts content over time and who knows you could end up with a Camille look a like I know Syco has the gubbins or know how for lengthening swing arm and drive shaft..

Recently bought a R80RT taxed motd and running well for £800 1982. Stainless throughout floating disc conversion, braided line, clean and without any fairing cracks etc. Sold it on after a couple of plodding tours and a really good fettle (full service, filters, pads, shoes etc) for £1100 to a guy who simply wanted that bike in that colour

Specials are always difficult to mark up but I would guess at about £1k. Old saying ' its worth what you can get'

As others have said, it's hard to put a value on a bitsa (and you'll never see the true cost of the bits and pieces you've sourced to make it). However, assuming a sound engine and box, it feels like its worth somewhere in the region of £750 - £1000 to me (at least if I had the space, I'd consider spending that on it).

As you mentioned earlier, you'll probably see the best price on ebay - some people work themselves up into a frenzy over certain bikes and will pay well over the odds ;)

I agree its a difficult thing to price...

Just for all your info..

The bike stands me at 1200 as is (and that doesn't take into account any parts I happened to have kicking around before I started the project).. And will most likely cost me another 30/50 quid to get its mot sorted...

I know its probably top whack price wise of what I can expect to get back when selling her.. But I'll give it a go on fleabay and see what happens! In the end I built the bike for me as a fun project to fill the winter days.. Not as a money spinner..

So although I know I probably wont get every penny back I wont sell her for a too much of a loss as I'll happily have her sitting in the garage for the odd sunny sunday bimble now and then.. Just means I'll have to save up for the other bike!

:d J

here in the states, u could expect around 2500$$ to 3000$$$ and maybe a bit more if she is clean and operates well. i was talking to a guy that just bought a /6 g/s build up, for 2500$$. can not remember the exchange rate. i pay more for a tidy airhead, needing fixed or not, i am going to build one for the misses out of a r65.

cheers

price in mind now

Okay ladies and gents.. Thanks again for all the thoughts with regards to pricing my baby...When I get back from my holiday I'll be putting the old girl up for sale...

I'm going to be looking for a minimum of 1200 as is.. or 1400 if I put an mot on her.. only reason for the difference is the arse ache factor of getting her mot'd.. I hoping someone will take her as is! I'm guessing with the variation in price you guys suggest that my best bet to get what I want for her is to list her on fleabay so thats probably what I'll do.

Cheers!

it's a £200 arse ache to get it MOT'd?

here's what i think it's worth: £500 tops, but someone will pay £1000ish for it.

Yeahbut you're an ex-airhead owner who is still bitter about not owning one anymore (of the BuMW) variety so your opinion is not valid either - Proff says so :comfort

And in any case I already valued it at 500 sheets so you need to go again :D

not so much bitter, as keeping an eye out for another*

anyway, i think adding "tops" to the figure differentiates it sufficiently to stand :)

*came very close to buying a fairly tidy one for myself last week, but in the end bought it for someone else. selfless, that's me :P

ah well.. another "offer" of 500 quid.. heres what I think.. I challenge you to go find a bike with as many new/rebuilt parts and in as good nick for 500 quid! Because you wont get this one for that money!

Cricky.. I could take all the nice bits off the bike.. rebuild it with all the original wheels etc and get 500/600 quid for it.. then sell all the nice bits and make up my 1200 quid.

Oh well.. I'm going to be working flat out till sunday.. then I'm off for a jaunt on my Zed thou for a week! When I get back I'll give it one shot on fleabay.. If it doesn;t make the money then I'll go with plan B above and strip the bike.

Oh well.. :D J

Ignore them, they know not what they type :comfort:rob

I'm supposed to be the old fart on this section and I reckon it's worth, and you WILL get what your asking for or very close too it :thumb2
