My Remus is too noisy

I have just bought an 08 GSA with a remus Hexacone on it. I love the tone but my missus refuses to ride it saying it is in danger of making her ears bleed. Also, when I come off the gas everyone within 200 yards dives for cover thinking the terrorists have arrived.

Finally, if I come to an abrupt stop, the bike often cuts out - I sense a fuelling issue but am technically inept!

i don't want to go to a dealership and get fleeced so a couple of questions....

1 - can i make my Remus a bit quieter - I have the baffle in!
2 - is my gun-fire issue common and can it be lessened just a bit?
3 - is the cutting out related to the exhaust and what is the solution?

So many questions hping for one simple answer - which isn't change it back to the stock exhaust

I sold my pre-loved Remus can (for more money than I paid for it) and put the stock can back on :augie

Noisey ****ing things

3 - is the cutting out related to the exhaust and what is the solution?my 05 never cuts out.refit BMW can and see if if stops.

some like the noise :drool others like the BMW can .
if your baffle is in other than rip it apart and stuff it with packing,it is a Remus after all.
i would put the standard can on a see if the stalling continues.

remus

i have a remus tricone which is very throaty,i love it. my gs also has a pc 111 fitted which smooths the fueling a produces a couple of extra bhp. no stalling issues at all. i regulary get in excess of 60 mpg on premium fuel if speed is kept to 70mph. i hope this helps.

I have a Remus full system on my GS12 SE not a Hexacone but do get that great gunfire pop alot I love it, gets pedestrians moving when they are dawdling across the road!!

I do occasionally get a stall but only rarely. Never bothered me too much although I am tempted to put a power commander type device on to see if it can smooth fuelling a little.

Some call me indecisive but I am not really sure!!

I had a Remus Revolution too. I kept it only for a day and took it off. It was noisy and it didn't improve the performance at all. I found that the stock end can performed much better in the region of 2-4k revs.
I love the torque at low revs and with the Remus that was gonne. I didn't care what was happening after the 6k mark, because most of my driving is done below 5k revs.
But that's just me.:D

I have a remus with cat removed and agree it is loud, dont have the orignal exhaust so cant try that, its a bit lumpy aswell with the Remus, thought about one of those chips of ebay

what year and model is your gs
you can k.n filter it and fuel settings in motec and chip it up
makes it run sweet
dont forget to balance the throttles bodies as that can be out
do the end float and vavles
fit irduim plugs

hope this helps

Mine is a 97 and has the K&N, Im afraid the rest of what you said is a foreign language to me! :nenau

Repack it

If it's done a few miles, then there's a good chance that re-packing the exhaust will help... it did with my Revolution on my 1150. The packing does get blasted away after a few thousand miles, and the noise increases noticably. These days I do find mine is a bit more noisy than I'd like even when re-packed, and I prefer the sound of the standard can, but the std one is just SO heavy, that I don't want to put it back on! I've done all I can to keep the weight reasonable, but that std silencer is a joke.

You have fitted a performance exhaust but have you also fitted a K&N to compensate for it? That may solve your running probs.
One thing I noticed when I fitted mine, with just the can changed it wasn't noticably louder but definately was when I replaced the cat with a Y piece. I like to hear my engine but would refit the cat if I wanted to keep it quiet as you seem to want.

I have just bought an '04 R1150GSA myself and it is fitted with the Remus Evolution (I think!). Wife is complaining too that it's too loud for her. (to be fair she is sitting further back than I ). Is there a chart that shows which Remus cans are which from a noise output point of view ?

So, I too would be interested in what thoughts are posted here. And if anyone has a standard can for part ex ............... please pm me.

with cat removed on my r1150, I run a remus with the baffle removed but with 2" of pipe fitted in its place so it looks like i have a baffle in :augie yes it is sneeky but as a side afect it has olterd the note making it rounder and deeper.
i did seal all the joint so it only pops a bit now and then on the over run, and changed the link under the seat for no cat.
it got better throttle response.

There is probably a simple rule of thumb for Remus which i know applies to the 11/1150's (not too bothered about the 12's:augie:D). If you change the end can on an 1150 but keep the cat you have a bit more noise but not intrusively so. If you go the whole hog and change for Y piece and end can you will definately get more bark which makes it "loud".

Many bikes were fitted with a Y piece but standard end can which keeps the noise under control.

Either of these can add smoothness but the more stealth change was Y peice with std end can.

11's obviously have a 1 piece silencer/collector but Remus split this and i have the Remus collector and a through can. If you fit a straight through link pipe it will be noisey.

If you are talking "tuning" then people go straight through but this will obviously add noise.

An easy way to test this is to fit the standard set up and then see what noise levels you have with std and then take the silencer off and see what the collector on its own gives. That is why 1150 "Stubbies" have been so popular as they fit the cat/collector.

HI,WHERE ARE YOU BASED? I'M CONSIDERING GETTING A REMUS HEXACONE.. MAYBE WE COULD MEET, COMPARE N IF WE BOTH WANTED A SWOP SORT OUT THE BALANCE....
