Nürburgring

I personally think the Ring Taxi is better value :D :D

Knew you'd enjoy it. It's infectious don't ya think?

Glad I don't live near it. Back garden would be full of wrecks, I'd have no money, no wife and a serious lack of cash!!!!!

:thumb

Just what I needed - I'll be there for the 1st time on the 23rd and now can't wait :aidan

Might just have to go for the 4lap ticket - the gf's up for it - all i need to do is find a few extra (read 40 at least) bhp between now and then and we'll be having a great time

Will remember to take a few snaps too :)

The taxis are booked out months in advance…… But once you go round on your bike and do the maths. ….One lap in taxi @ €200 = 10 laps on your bike……Duhhhh:blast …..go on your bike 10 times:D

The other great memory I have from the trip…….the Paris Peripherique at rush hour:bounce1 :bounce1 …..and that’s free:thumb2 ……….

Great write up, Hatchet. An honest evaluation very similar to my own experience of shaking hands, fumbling tickets and "where the feck did he come from ?!?!"

Who amongst you got overtaken by the tour bus? He truly should be shamed forever. I remember catching 2 coaches at the carousel. Prior to that I'd avoided the banking. It was a ... interesting ... manouvre, but at least I got past.

Told you you'd need a 4 lap ticket!

The ring taxi is about 200 euros...so 3 of you make it about 65 euros each. I know thats 3 laps on the bike but going round in that car really is worth the money. I managed to blag a few laps with instructors in 997 carrera 4s's last summer and we sat with the M5 for a while. The cornering/acceleration and braking forces are nothing short of phenominal. The trick to blagging a lap (and its easy cos these guys like to show how well they can drive) is to find one of the few who are not banging on about how fast they are...avoid those like the plague. But a car lap is definately worth a go

Great write up Hatchet loved the bit about one of your group getting overtaken by the coach, please tell me he was stationary at the time:D , although I live in Germany it's a trek and I've only had the chance to do it once, going to go again with the father-in-law when he comes over, and any of the BFG lot over here if there not to scared:augie

As sure as I can be, the guys I was away with, who wanted to do it phoned while we were at Garmsich, and where told that was the case.:nenau

Agree completely. I watched Sabine come past at 130ish and then brake and go sideways into the next bend with 3 pasengers on board :beerjug:

They reckon it costs 470 euro a lap for the M5 due to replacement tyres, brakes, suspension and the odd write off!!! Sounds like good value to me.
They wrote one off the week before we went (with passengers apparently).
No matter how good you think it is riding around, you'll never really know what it's like until you've been around with a loon who knows the track and is in someone elses car.

Sorry lads…was being a bit flippant when I said this. I would love to go around the ring in a fast car driven by someone who knows what they’re doing. Three of us tried to organize it while there but without success (had arranged to split fare 3 ways and draw lots for front seat). We weren’t sure at the time and still aren’t, is the fare €200 per person or per car. Some replies to this thread hint at both.

As for the viper. Saw it out on the track from a viewing area close to our hotel and I have to say, We didn’t think the driver was giving his all, seemed to be taking it very easy and I would have been annoyed had I parted with €270 for a trip in it.

Again. I have to admit to being flippant (I must check to see if there is a little flippant smiley face to add to my posts). I’m sorry to say the bus didn’t pass any of the guys I was with, I hate ruining a good story with the truth:rolleyes:  . That’s not to say that it wouldn’t have had we been on the track while it was out there:augie :augie .

The Ring.

Hiy'all, :aidan

Sooper account, Hatchet and I hope it will inspire others to try it. It is an awesome experience particularly if you are not an expert rider - and I include myself in that category.

One tip that might be useful for the less experienced is to ride round behind an experienced rider eg. a 'Ring instructor. There is an ex-racer by the name of Neil Leigh who runs an excellent b&b mear Spa which is about an hour away from the 'Ring. Not only is he a very entertaining chap but a marvellous rider. His web address is http://www.aeaventures.com/
Neil organises trips to not only the 'Ring but other tracks too.
I must point out that I have no connection with him other than having stayed in his excellent abode and ridden the 'Ring with him on two separate occasions. Believe me, it is the safest way to do it because it can be a very dangerous place if not treated with respect. But what an experience!!!

:clap :clap :clap :clap

There's a good chance I'll be there on the GSA the weekend of Saturday 8/9 Sept on my way back to London from Zurich if anyone is about.

The weekend of Sept 1st is fully booked due to the DTM races and am struggling to find any accomodation for Saturday Sept 8th. Any tips?

I'd just go. We went at a similar time last year and found a place 10-15 miles away. Great roads to and from the hotel so it was worth it.

It might be the Ferrari weekend (it was when we were there, hence lack of available accomodation). Take a chance, you're bound to find somewhere once you go away from the circuit.

If I could remember the name of the hotel I'd tell you because the food was great, the rooms were nice and the host was really really friendly. Unfortunately I can't remember :blast Was definately 10 - 15 miles away, near a McDonalds, garage and sex shop!!! Somebody here must know where that is :augie

Hi Jermey

We're going that weekend too. We'll be at the ring Saturday evening and Sunday morning - giz a shout if you see us in the carpark. Two GSs (one silver and one red) and one yellow R1200s (mine).

We're staying at
http://www.am-tiergarten.de/

Will do Andy. I've tried everywhere on your list and just waiting to hear from Suzan at Sliders Guesthouse. Otherwise I'll be kipping in my pannier.

Jeremy

WOOHOO! finally found a room at the Dorint Hotel on the track, see you there. Red/White 1200GSA (the faster colour).
