Has any one ever tried to cut down a set of R1200GS handlebars, or know of narrower aftermarket one. As after seeing the light and buying the beemer i just can,t filter through city traffic as fast cos i keep catching door mirrors of cars.
its funny as i now find it easier to filter the taffic cos my bars on the GS are higher than my ZRX, therefore just glide over car wing mirrors...however, if u need to make them smaller, try renthal bars.
After owning a variety of bikes and riding through Hong Kong traffic for quite a few years, I can say that the GS is the easiest to filter - okay, mine is an 1150 but I presume the handlebars are of a similar height? Even with the handguards fitted, I find that the GS bars are above car / taxi mirrors and I can filter with ease. Hong Kong has a higher number of 7-seater vehicles and light vans and these are a pain for filtering but generally its okay.
As I said, mine's an 1150 so I know there's some difference.
Try filtering on a CBR1100XX or even a R1100S - what pains they were! I had to use one of the other cross harbour tunnels, at nearly 3 times the price, in order to get home without taking out any vehicles - DOH
Ill get some in the week when i go back to my parents... incidentally i did manage to completely destroy my heated grips in fitting the new bars *lack of patience* so im going to fit either oxford hotgrips or those... symatec thingies.
Thanks guys, i will have a look at the Renthal Bars and in the meantime would be keen to see any piccy's of what they look like on, are the heated grips a pain? Cheers
I think had i taken my time in removing them from the existing bars and thought about it a bit more it would have been easy... oh well!
Im going to the symtec ones anyway as i dont like the bmw heated grips "feel". I prefer renthal "soft" grips and with the symtec heating elements i can use these.
