Having trouble transferring a tyre gpx file to nav 5. The file transfers ok and nav 5 asks to import data ok. As the data imports the calculate route screen flashes up but disappears straight away showing 0% calculated. You can access the route in trip planner and see the waypoints but just shows straight line between points. Bit of a novice with route planning software. Have tried lots of things inc loading tyre gpx to base camp but no joy yet. Want to eliminate a fault with nav5 stopping this from working and be sure it's me not understanding the software causing the problem. Any ideas?

when you loaded the said gpx into your base camp software, did it show just the straight lines and waypoints, and if so did you then hit recalculate and after that did you send the route to your device via basecamp. if not try it that way, be mindful that it may alter your route after the recalculation in base camp, chek it against the origional one to see. are you using a mac or pc.

You have got the first bit right but don't save as tyre files. Just save as .gpx files on your puter in a folder like routes or tours. The files you saved as .gpx you can transfer to the Nav V under the GPX folder. Name the route like Day 1. Unplug the Nav V from the puter, start it up, navigate the Nav V as follows:
tracks - select the Day 1 for eg. - tool icon - convert to trip - start to fiish - rename if you like or select done. The Nav V will then start calculating the route. It may take a while but it will get it done, just make sure the battery is charged beforehand. The converted track will be stored in trip planner.

Best and easiest idea, fantic156: Use BaseCamp or Mapsource to plot your route, both are designed to work directly with Garmin based GPS devices, cutting out Tyre.

All you are doing otherwise is using a third party programme, which is (possibly) creating most if not all of your problems.

Post your route file up here, please. Some kind soul might then have a look at it for you. My guess as to why you have straight lines can vary between:

1. The way/shaping points are not placed on roads that the (I assume) Nav V holds or recognises, so it cannot calculate / display routes between however many points you have. It does its best, hence the straight lines.

2. The routing preferences in your Nav V

3. The maps selected in your Nav V

PS A Google of: Garmin nav displays straight lines tyre, turns up:

Richard, the above worked fine for me. The route calculated by the Nav V is the same as in TYRE. My Nav V settings is the same as suggested in the pdf file elsewhere in the section. Give it a try because the planning is easier than using Garmin software and easier to share. I'm not well versed in the Garmin software so that is probably why I prefer to use Tyre.

That said it wouldn't hurt to spend a few hours holed up away from the missus and frustrate yourself getting to grips with Mapsource or Basecamp.

The best bit of advice is to make sure that the auto-recalculate in the Nav V is turned off. then it will not try to amend the route
