NAV 6 New unit update

Just happened across this post….good to see Garmin have finally fixed the Nav6 and they appear to be replacing, irrespective of age ?

Best approach with Garmin for the replacement ? I’ve just tried the Garmin Support centre online but my serial number is not recognised….which it definitely was before and is logged to my account…. When I click against my product on Garmin (with correct serial number showing) ‘You seem to be lost’ and diverts me back to Support Centre.

So I’m going to have to phone them in the morning. Anyone else have trouble like this ?

On the 3 occasions I had to return mine, I rang the Support team. All very efficient and straightforward.

Well that was, indeed, painless !

Phoned Garmin Support ( 0800 238 0000) and they checked my details and arranged replacement - sent it back (free) via UPS this afternoon. They have 'plenty' of Cap Touch versions in stock....

My Nav 6 has the old touch screen , had a ghosting issue on the odd occaision so im considering asking for a replacement. Just wondering how people are getting on with the new version. Is the software the same and does it work with any gloves or do you need touch screen type. Any other issues?

When people predicted (swore blind) that the new screen would not work with gloves, they were just spouting bollocks.

There are no reports of the third generation devices not working properly.

Not true sir ; There are many reports of lockups of Garmin XT2 , with its highly sensitive , capacitive screen , in heavy rainfall .
(I have suffered the same, in biblical rain at Namur last year , which was distressing , just at a time that I had no visibility and lost position )
Garmin now have a ‘cheat’ facility by providing a ‘screen lock ‘ which is yet to be tested .

I think wapping is referencing nav 6 cap screen devices

Perhaps Wapping can explain what is meant by ‘third generation’ ?

Given that the question and sub-section relates to the Navigator VI and not to the very different XT models, I’d say it’s entirely true.

There have been three separate generations of the BMW branded, Garmin produced, Navigator VI GPS device.

The first generation had ghosting and freezing problems.

The second generation (designed to cure the problem) had ghosting and freezing problems.

The third and presumably final generation, seems to have cured the ghosting and freezing problems.

BMW parted company with Garmin with the Navigator VI, branching out with their own phone based navigation app, along with integrating the GPS display into their bikes’ TFT screens.

I’ve just spoken to Garmin , the guy wasn’t sure which was the serial number, took the one above the barcode , said it wasn’t registered, which I’m sure it was and wanted a copy of the original invoice which I’ve sent.
I’m not feeling to confident and appear to have had a different response to others.

Update, spoke to Garmin today and they’re going to exchange my Nav6 for the new type.
Sent through shipping and exchange info.
Happy days.

Arrived a couple of days ago via UPS - excellent service. All seems fine…..updated maps etc, reloaded POI from Basecamp. Only issue I’m suffering currently is that Basecamp starts to load the map from the Nav VI…..gets part way through and sites ‘Comms issue with Nav’ and stops there. I can still move POI etc between device and Basecamp though…..

Anyone else getting this problem ?

Do you load the map from the Nav 6 onto your PC? Ive never done that, i just makes sure its the same map level, that said i do get the message saying the maps are not the same.

I did the same, (only had the issue a few times and thought I would just work around it) seeing this thought I would call garmin, can’t fault the response at all, called Wednesday morning, posted back to garmin Wednesday afternoon using the downloaded UPS label, it arrived Thursday at Garmin, today (Friday) they have despatched a replacement expected to be with me Monday 👍👍👍why can’t all companies work like this🤔

Some might ask why Garmin / BMW allowed two generations of shonky Nav VI devices onto the market. The second generation being (supposedly) issued to cure the problems of the first generation. You might also ask why Garmin / BMW charged early owners (whose devices were just out of warranty) to replace the shonky items, when they are now replacing umpteen for nothing.

I sent my nav VI back to Garmin as instructed 26th March after being advised they would send a replacement unit out on receipt of the faulty unit.

It now turns out they wont be sending the replacement out until "first half of May" which is a bit of a bummer, I have a trip planned at the end of March!

Its handy that you have eleven months available to do other things before this is required.

More seriously, I was told that delivery was expected the end of April earlier this year, which was not a problem for me.
It might be if its the end of May however!

Oooops, end of April!!!

Still think its a bit of a p1ss take, getting me to send it back knowing they didnt have one to replace it with. I only found the replacement was not due till May because I contacted them.....

Had I known they were not able to replace it straight away I would have put up with the ghosting for my trip, any nav is better than none

I hope you get yours in time!
