Hi all. Just had an email from Garmin support asking me to fill in a short survey with the view to exchanging my replacement unit for the revised version. Looks like they intend to replace the older units with new ones if you have had one previously with the screen fault. 🤞

I got the same email yesterday and by pure coincidence my 4th replacement 'Make Life a Ride' arrived this morning.

I rang Garmin to see if the new replacement was one of their new super deluxe fixed units......no such luck but I will be able to get one when they are available in 7-14 days

Also got this in the box

Just got an email. So, this will be on its way as soon as I send mine back.

BMW Motorrad Navigator VI LM, Cap Touch, Replacement Head Unit, EU, AOEM

Will it be finally the end of all this?
The replacement I've got has been flawless all this year.

What’s a cap touch version? :nenau

From what I can find, Cap Touch is short for Capacitive Touch Screen. It uses the electrical impulses from the finger instead of finger pressure.
So I assume the old screens were resistive touch.
I also assume that the new screens may need skin contact, or gloves with the special finger tip to work..

The difference between Capacitive and Resistive touch screen

What is the difference between Capacitive touch screens and Resistive touch screens? Resistive technology has been somewhat overtaken by capacitive technology when it comes to touchscreen monitors and devices. To the average eye, both resistive and capacitive touch screens perform the same function, however there are some notable differences between the two technologies.

Capacitive touch screen technology is unrivalled, with numerous benefits including heightened touch sensitivity, a brighter and sharper display and multi-touch support whilst fine cracks and scratches do not hinder the overall performance.

Resistive touch screens rely on the mechanical pressure made by a finger or stylus, whereas capacitive touch screens rely on the electrical impulses of the human body which cause a change in the electrical field of the screen. Essentially, resistive screens rely on pressure and capacitive screens use electrodes to sense conductive properties.

Got my notification at 17.49 tonight, just after Garmin will have closed for the Christmas holidays and if you are daft enough to return your old Garmin today or tomorrow the parcel will be 'in the system' for over a week.
I’m daft enough, sent with the UPS label provided. No bike anyway until 1st March so it was only sat in a drawer.

Interesting - thank you. I presume the Nav V would be Resistive but seemed to have less problems, even more interesting.

I hope the Cap Touch is the solution for everyone.

Could be a little annoying having to take my glove off to make an alteration. I’ll have to practice with the wiz wheel.

Could be a good excuse to buy some new-fangled gloves with the fancy finger-tip to operate cap-touch screens.

If the new Nav 6 does come with capacitive touch screen, I wonder how it will fair when wet. Most mobile phone screens become unresponsive.

After only six months my Nav6 went all odd, the screen would do it's own thing. Went to BMW and the unit worked perfectly, they suggested that I videoed the faults as they happen. Did so and went back. I'm now getting the up graded unit. So hopefully things will be ok. As a side note I'm getting charged £60 as the new unit is £660, with the old unit being £600. I was given the option of a new old unit, but there would be no point as I'm sure that would go faulty too.

Why did you go back to BMW, Deal directly with Garmin only. Most BMW dealers don’t have a clue what’s happening with the Nav6 and will see it as opportunity to make money. Garmin have been brilliant and I’ve never even mentioned it to any BMW dealer.

Rob at Cotswold Motarrad does have an idea about it. He has done some replacements if your Nav is still within BMW warranty
My original 6 bought in June 2021 was fine until November 2022, doing the same in the videos posted. Sent a new full retail boxed one out to replace (It was the newer 'Make life a ride version)
This month, the 2022 replacement does the same, videos sent to Cotswold. He is able to get the newer screen ones to replace and is doing so for this one
Comes in a small box, just the Nav and battery
I shall see if this one sorts the problem out. Being posted 1st week of January
I want the use of the wonder wheel with the Nav so ruled out the XT
Not really sold on the new Navigator as it has been having software issues
Great service from Cotswold

The one I’ve just sent back, at Garmin’s request was the second replacement supplied directly from them and has been faultless since I got it in April. Anyone with a Nav 6 should get their name, email and serial number registered with Garmin themselves until this is finally sorted out.
