I picked up my GSA LC last week and also the NAV 5. Coming from a Garmin 660 I was very surprised that the box only contained the NAV 5 and battrey and nothing else, apart from a warning note and warranty sheet. Anyone got something more with his NAV 5?

If you look at the BMW mottorad website, it says it comes with usb cable, carry case and other stuff.

Yep car kit is an extra.

But just bought a new v myself and think its the nuts versus my 660.

Yeah got all the kit too with mine. One thing I can't get my head round. Iv'e got the BMW system helmet with the bluetooth module, I can receive calls automatically, but how do you make a call via the nav 5 while on the move?

Ever bought an ipad or iphone? No instruction whatsoever! Applies to so much gear these days. I think it must be to do with the cost of printing in so many languages.

There's a phone button bottom left of the 'home' screen - you need to go back to this from the navigation screen unless there's a shortcut.

Thanks Andy, I assume that when you press this button it brings up the phone book from the phone? otherwise how do you get into call the number that you want?

Yes, you have phone book access from that screen. I don't have the unit with me at the moment but it was fairly intuitive once I got to that screen.

Will the Garmin allow you to MAKE a call whilst on the move? I know my tomtom allows you to answer calls from the screen whilst moving but will only allow access to making a call if the bike is stationary, obviously for safety reasons to stop you from scrolling through the phone book looking for the number you require instead of watching the road.

Nav V will allow you to make a call on the move, you can use the scroll wheel on the left switch gear to dial your home number from the shortcut menu, or you can press the phone button and scroll through using the wheel to select the number you want. You can do it with voice commands as well, but on a bike, this makes for interesting results :)

Thanks for the heads up.

Armed with your advise I prompted the sales guy. The result was that I have ordered (to be march registered) a GS1200 TE in Alpine white.

I could see the dealers literature but upside down, and I think it applied to any bike with a GS designation.

I was looking at a few registered mid 2014 but the heated grip episode and the sat nav promotion issue made my mind up. I sold my twin cam GS last May so looking forward to getting on-board again.

How the hell do you reset Trip 2? Trip 1 resets with the select all in the options menu. I'm not talking about the trip readings at the top of the Sat Nav screen, but the ones at the bottom, Odo trip 1 and trip 2.
