I have a BMW Navigator IV (it was on the bike when I bought it) and would like to be able to use my headphones with it but the BMW mount blocks the headphone socket.

I believe that the 2nd plug on the wire harness is a mono audio output which links in with some other BMW models audio systems. Can anyone tell me if there is some sort of adaptor which can plug into this second connector to provide a headphone socket?

“Why not use the Bluetooth!” I hear you say. Well I’ve tried two different Bluetooth receivers, one Nokia and one Sony Erickson and both have drastically reduced the volume over a direct connection to the point they are almost useless. Also when on the move with the Nokia one the sound pulsed on and off so you only got little snippets of it.

Another option would be to buy a Zumo 660 mount and use that with the Navigator IV to get access to the headphone socket, but before I fork out for one does anyone know if they are compatible?

I wish I hadn't sold my 2820....

Any help would be appreciated.

I was talking to my dealer today about the Navigator IV - he says there is no audio-out, it is by Bluetooth only. Is yours a 660 in a Navigator cradle - might explain why the socket is obstructed by the cradle.

I use my NavIV with a Zumo 660 car mount, in the car (strangely enough) an it works fine. On that basis, it should work equally well with the Garmin motorcycle mount for the 660.

Does anyone know if the new Sony SBH50 bluetooth receiver will connect to the Zumo 660 or BMW Navigator iv?

I've seen the older Sony mw600 recommended on this forum as a great bluetooth solution for those of us wanting to get music, nav instructions etc. piped through our earphones.

This newer version of the same bluetooth receiver has similar capabilities but also other stuff like NFC and upgraded bluetooth protocols. Given the Nav iv is pretty old now, would it connect wirelessly with a modern bluetooth receiver like the Sony SBH50 ?

Well, the Sony website says "You can use Stereo Bluetooth™ Headset SBH50 with any device that supports standard Bluetooth™ audio streaming (A2DP) including the most popular laptops, smartphones and tablets. This wireless headset will also connect to two smartphones or other devices at the same time." And the NAV Iv only ever asks for an A2DP headset to be connected, so I am assuming yes.

I have the MW600 and my only real complaint is that the screen is impossible to see in any sort of sunlight! Hopefully the SBH50 is better in this respect

Just a thought: why not pop into the nearest Comet of Carphone Warehouse (or whatever) with your 660/Nav IV and try making a BT connection?
