Before the thing gets smashed into a thousand bits I thought I'd just ask here, is there anything special about the "mini USB lead" for connecting the unit to a computer.
The unit will not work on the new WC without a firmware update but I've tried 2 leads which fit but don't actually connect to the PC!
Where am I going wrong? Garmin don't seem to sell a dedicated lead so I'm assuming a generic leads would work, why they couldn't include one in the box is beyond me.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.
Definitely no leads in the box though and it was new from a BMW dealer.

Might be worth taking it back and speaking to the dealer. I had both a mini USB lead and a charger in the box with mine. You may also find a panel on the side of the box which tells you what's supposed to be in it.

Hope you sort it out!

When you say wont connect to the pc, do you mean the computer wont recognise the usb lead when you plug it in?? If you do I had this exact same issue the other day when trying to update my mapping, after much head scratching and digging around on the puta! For some reason the puta had for some reason thought there was a fault and turned off the usb ports, basically if this is what yours has done you have to re-set them, if you google "why have my usb ports stopped working" youll find the info on how to do it, I tried four different leads before I found this out!

If you are routing the USB lead through a hub, make sure the hub itself is correctly connected. They can work loose and / or fail.

Also try cutting the hub out, connecting direct to your PC.

Over the years I have used assorted USB leads to connect various Garmin devices to several computers, always without a problem.

I had much grief trying to use the USB ports on the front of my HP desktop with Garmin devices. The ports on the back work fine, as do those on my laptop. A group of ports on the front is likely to be a hub built into the computer and, according to Garmin, they can be troublesome. Searching the FAQs on their website (all 200-ish pages) brings up all sorts of useful snippets.
