I haven't ridden my bike for a good few weeks.
I always leave the Nav V in the cradle
Just started the bike and the Nav didn't come on
I've now plugged it into my computer with the charging cable and still nothing
Any suggestions???

It takes a while to charge.
When you switch the ignition off it should (eventually) offer you the choice to turn off or cancel and stay on. If you do nothing it SHOULD default to turning itself off.
When it's off the mount make sure you turn it off by pressing and holding the on/off button until you get the same option. If you have set the screen to go off after a few moments of no inputs, then the screen will go black BUT the Garmin is still on using the battery.

Ditto..he's right. :thumb

It's dead as a dodo! Screen remains black whether it's in the bike cradle or on the charger
I'm guessing that the battery has died

Can your computer see the device when it's connected?

If the battery is very flat, it may well take some time to charge fully enough to boot up the screen and operating systems. Similarly, it might need a kickstart. Try pushing, holding the power button depressed and then releasing it. This assumes of course that you are successfully charging the device.

Try disconnecting the battery and then carefully reconnecting it, just in case some damp / corrosion has got into the contacts.

Some external chargers are seen by the device as a computer, which might not always allow charging to take place. Connecting the device to a computer will (most often) allow charging and computer operation at the same time. For instance, I have updated the software / maps on very flat (zero power) Nav V's and charged the devices at the same time from my Mac. I sometimes have to hold the power button depressed in order to boot them up afterwards, as described above.

PS Try the GPS section too.

A mates one was exactly the same he'd not ridden for a few months and the nav wouldn't charge from the bike or computer.
He got his to charge via a usb adapter plugged into the mains, it took a hour or two though

Whith the NAV V mounted on its GS craddle, when you switch the ignition key off, you're shown a turn off screen informing it wil turn itself off in 30 seconds ( there is a coundown from 30 to 0 seconds). This is misleading as in fact the GPS will not shut off but rather go into STAND BY. While it appears to be off its actually partially on, and consumes its battery charge which may last up to 30 days in stand by.

To actually turn the unit off one has to take it out of its craddle and hold the power on/off switch untill the turn off message is shown and then choose off. The screens for stanby or off are very similar, however the off scren DOES NOT have the countdown feature.

The stand by feature is a very nice feature as it allows a next to instant turn on of the unit; very convenient for daily use. Older units that didn`t have this feature needed to start and load its software every time it was powered on.

With the Nav V you have 2 ways to turn the unit back on: Hold the power switch pressed untill the "BMW MOTORRAD"screen is shown or simply place it on its craddle and switch the ignition on.

Please remeber that depleting the units battery considerably shortens its life so if you're not going to use the GPS for longer than a week or so I would advise to shut the unit off

If you have depleted your Nav V's battery its easiest to place on the GS's craddle, turn the ignition on and in 10 minutes or less it will charge enough to turn itself on again. Untill its battery is charged enough, again in up to 10 minutes, the unit will remain off

Thanks guys. I will try all of your suggestions.
I've had her plugged into my Mac for a couple of hours and she's still dead
The Garmin Express software is not seeing the Nav unit either
I'll try connecting directly to a mains USB plug

I'm pretty sure you can get a new battery at reasonable cost maybe Amazon/ eBay

My Nav V did exactly the same and I rang Garmin. They said USB connect for few hours should sort the problem. It did not work the first time but second try on overnight charge sorted it out. No problems since
