Hi all,
Not really sure if I'm flogging a dead horse here, but if I am, I'm hoping someone can help regardless.
Having recently purchased my second R1200GS LC (a 2015 model with 41 000 Km on it) and getting a Navigator VI as part of the deal, I'll be blunt and say I'm not impressed with the VI's performance. Not at all.
Mine has all the documented problems (random refusal to connect to the GPS satellite net, random refusal to respond to screen touches with or without gloves; random 'ghost touches' and self-navigation through onboard menus).
Pretty bizarre. This thing behaves like it needs an exorcism.
Called Garmin SA: "Not our problem. Speak to BMW."
Called a South African BMW dealer. As helpful as they could be, but the essence of what I heard was "Even in a best-case scenario, this model is old enough to be both out of warranty, and no longer covered by any BMW goodwill period." The service advisor I spoke to was quite frank in saying my best chance was to put the GPS on my insurance policy, make sure it had 'a terminal mishap', and claim for it.
I don't want to do that, so...

- Are there any sure fixes for these issues?
- If there are sure fixes, will sourcing parts for them be a problem?
- How difficult is it to dismantle a Nav VI?
- If you've ditched a Nav VI and replaced it with a Chinese equivalent bought on Temu/AliExpress, how good has your experience of it been?
