Need new boots

In the market for a pair of new boots - the 5 year old bmw pro tourers have finally succumbed to the gear change wearing a hole thru the leather and dampness getting in more generally during down pours.

I was thinking of Daytona road stars though they're a bit pricey. Any one had any experience of these or recomendations for any other makes? Had a browse thru the Alt berg web site and liked the look of the new roadrunners but where can I look at these in the South East?

look at the travel star as it has a flap over the zip and stops the liner getting wet - you feet are still dry though.

very good boots but have a good look at the german sites for significant savings over UK prices

I've had a pair of Roadrunners almost since the day they were introduced and have been very impressed so far, only ridden abut 15k in them though so it's early days.

Looks to be a few stockists of their walking boots in the south east, but can't see any that stock their bike boots.

I have had a pair of TCX Infinitys for a couple of years. They are a really good boot IMHO, warm, waterproof and comfy for walking around in, if a little warm in summer. Thinking of buying a 'summer boot'.

You cant, i've got a pair of their hogg all weathers, absolutely excellent boot, no reason to believe the roadrunner will be any less so.

i looked at the txc a while ago, things that put me off for an "enduro / off road boot"

zero ankle support and a road use sole if you want it just for looks then fine but otherwise get a proper road boot

I've got Roadstars, they're brilliant - I can wear them all day, they're very comfy to walk in when off the bike, and they are totally waterproof so far. Yes they are a bit pricey, but they're 18 months old already, and I can't see me needing a new pair anytime in the next 5 or 6 years, so £330 for 7 or so years is pretty good value I reckon!

Thanks guys. The added expense and time of going to Yorkshire for the Altbergs is probably going to push me towards the Daytona's which is a pity as the Altbergs are about £100 cheaper.

Daytonas

I've had a pair for ten years and many thousands of miles. Always been very comfortable and 100% waterproof. Don't forget that Daytona do a referbushing service. Sent my back a few years ago and they came back with new soles, zips, gortex lining and gear change pads.

+ 1 for Daytona Road Stars, sure expensive but I believe that you get what you pay for.

Apart from being warm and waterproof, they just feel like they will last forever, built like tanks but still feel as comfy as your slippers!
How do they do that ?

I've been using Alpinestar goretex leather boots for about 4 yrs now, fully w/proof and comfy. Give them and annual winter coating with saddle care stuff and still like new. Would buy them again.....

Ok the decision has been made! New boots, anyone know where I can get the best price on tcx infinity gtx boots ? Best price I've found is on eBay £189.00. Anyone know where I can get a better deal?

Hello, I bought some TCX Infinity from Get Geared last October. I paid £170 in the Leeds store. They have been very comfortable from the start and so far 100% waterproof. Hope this is of some help. Glenn.

I've been using timberland earthkeepers, gortex/waterproof and very comfortable.

Depends if you can wait till the next bike show. I got a pair at the NEC last year for £159. Fab boots - took a while to break in, but now really supple and comfortable and totally dry. Not sure I agree with the comment on the sole - I do a medium amount of off- road (ok, no Moroccan desert has darkened my door, nor the foothills of the himalayas, but a TRF level of fun) and they've been great - especially when one got stuck under the side stand in a rather embarrassing lay-down (NOT a fall, absolutely no way was it a fall, not even close, not a fall at all, it was an 'active decision'.....). Seemed to take the weight of the GSA for a couple of minutes without squishing the metatarsals to a gooey pulp. So if you're sticking to road and some light trail - a great choice.

I remember TCX did an 'old boot buy back' thing a while back, so deals could be done - what about haggling with your favourite local stockist?

If all else fails, still worth it from eBuy . Doesnt sound too bad.
