what tim said jack under the track rod end to force the end up so theres a bit of tension on the nut

few small hammer taps may help too if youve not got a splitter

last resort is hacksaw the thread - would take a while tho

Other way around to force the taper in.

Retighten nut with an air impact wrench until taper locks up tight.

Remove nut and then break taper.

Have you got a ball joint splitter...like a forked chisel
If so bang it in to load the joint and try the nut

after looking at the pic i was just going to say that - you need to load the taper again.

halfords etc have them but be careful not to damage the rubber boot - but you can buy replacement boots on ebay.

Think that might be out of my league.. Anyone know a mechanic near Lucan that does cheap call outs!

I have a forked splitter you can borrow, I am back on friday if thats any help?

Hope you get sorted,

Damien

If you are planning on replacing the ball joint then cut through the bolt with a hacksaw just above the nut.

You need a long bar like a scaffold tube or trolly jack handle. As someone has said you need to force the spigot back into the taper to stop it rotating. You'd be better off removing the wheel to gain better access, then wedge the bar under the chassis or other immovable part of the suspension and apply downward force and it should lock it enough to undo it.
