When travelling I carry a large 15" laptop for route planning with Mapsource onto BMW Nav IV, storing and editing video and photos, checking emails, booking accommodation and general surfing using hotel/B&B wifi.

Has anybody got any suggestions for a smaller Netbook/Ipad that would meet my needs but save on space and weight?

Regards

Get a 'Netbook' if you're a PC person, or a MacBook Air, if you can afford it (I can't...)

You can't run BaseCamp on an iPad, so that's not a lot of use.

Or just have a holiday from technology, and leave it all at home!

(I'm still trying to achieve this, with little success so far).

a £200 acer netbook has done everything you describe for me in the last 3 years. Depending on the amount of video processing you do, you may find an atom processor a bit slow. If that is a major factor and you have the means then get a 12" ultrabook with a core i3 or i5 processor. For home use, I have spunked out on a convertible Toshiba ultrabook. I'll continue to use the netbook when travelling as I don't need the increased performance for multi-tasking that the ultrabook offers.
