Has anyone used a Netgear DGN1000 to connect to TalkTalk? Setting it up manually requires a measure of knowledge about Domain Name Servers that I didn't realise I had but even though it connects it seems to do so intermittently.

A lot of ISPs make the connecting fairly automatic, and you shouldn't need to enter DNS information, the router will get that from the ISP (especially as they change them occasionally). Is your intermittent connection on a wired, or wireless, connection?

If you are using wireless you might have some issues with interference, I would test with a wired connection direct to the router if you can. Do you have microfilters attached to all the telephone connections, not just the one for the router? Is the DSL light on the router green, or flashing green?

Did you use the setup wizard to start the setup?

I started with the setup wizard on the disc that came with the device. It complained of an unknown error and told me that I had to set it up manually. The information I used came from a Google search for info on the original TalkTalk modem after their tech support talked me through re-entering its settings. Allegedly the disc that talkTalk sent me will set up my own modem sao if I don't find a solution by any other means I'll try it.
