Hi All,

My parents have a DG834 Netgear router and I am trying to connect to there computer using Remote Assistance. I realise that I have to create an "Inbound Rule" for the firewall but I am not sure what information to put in the following fields. Does anyone have an idea?

Service:
Action:
Send to LAN Server:
WAN Users:

Thanks

a quick google an it looks as if remote assistance is just the standard RDP protocol on port 3389.

You need to get their local pc address from
start>run>cmd>ipconfig likely on a netgear to be 192.168.0.x where x is the dynamic bit. probably 2 if the router is 1 and nothings been set up.

Service:3389(RDP)
Action:(im guessing 'allow')
Send to LAN Server: (local 192.168.0.x from above)
WAN Users: (all, or your public ip address off your router to be safe, but it could be dynamic too)

hope that helps, they really dont want to leave that forwarded all the time though.

top stuff,

the instructions were idiot proof so thanks for that.

no probs...

remember the public ip could change on your end, and leaving this forwarded does allow someone to have a pop at any weak passwords for the machine so disable when your finished.
