Finally had a chance to try the new 1300 ADV and wanted to share my thoughts...Also compared to the regular 1300 GS with ADV (sports) suspension.OK if you have to buy a new bike I would get the 1300GS ADV or regular GS over either Afrika Twin , Ready to race into bankruptcy 1290/1390 KTM or quieter than a espresso machine V4 Multistrada...But if you have a 1250 the differences/advancements are not big enough IMHO to upgrade which is kind of disappointing considering the old 1200/1250 is by now a 12 year old platform ! Or a sign of accomplishment how far ahead BMW was back in 2012 when the new 1200GS-LC came out and still is a total modern up to date bike 12 years later today in 2025 !
Good the 1300GS is faster in gears 1-2-3 than the 1250 but the taller gears 4-5-6 feel nothing faster due to the taller gearing which is kind of disappointing.Weight is about the same when bikes are specced the same minus the smaller tank , lighter battery and lighter forged wheels which are great ! According to MOTORRAD 0-125 10,9 vs 12,5 (EU 4) , 13,4 (EU5) 1250GS. Weight was 253 kilos for the 1300GS , 6 kilos lighter than the 1250GS but if it wasnt for the smaller tank, lithium battery and forged wheels weight would have been the same.
The 1300ADV came in at 282 kilos wet exactly the same as the 1250ADV...Acceleration 0-125mph was 13 seconds for the new 1300 vs 12,6 for the EU4 1250 ADV...
No progress here as I wont say anything about looks but sitting on it the new one feels more modern / sportier like a oversized superbike with the wide tank and shorter reach to the lower handlebar which felt good !
But for me to spend $$$ for a new GS BMW has to pull out the stops....165 hp/NM out of 1400 cc with longer stroke would be perfect ! Also a 24 liter tank option for the regular GS as the ADV is a elephant...(Too) BIG and 30 kilos heavier...LInked brakes like on the 1250 are great but to link the foot brake to the front like on the 1300 is stupid ! Also more sound from the exhaust would be highly appreciated as also a real tail-light instead of the confusing blinkers...A XR version with 17 inch wheels , lower handlebar and under seat exhaust would be the icing on the cake ! As also a S-portboxer as versatile and fun for road & track as the R1100S was in its days to replace the R and RS models and Please with Telelever would be stuff dreams are made of too as nobody offers a good looking , more versatile and less radical sport bike for the street and occasional track day anymore.Especially one with character as the superbikes have become pretty much all the same and way too extreme for road riding except for the M1000XR that unfortunately has no options for hard bags/centerstand to make it suitable for longer trips...The future will tell as there are very few bikes left worth buying or getting your juices flowing...So far my next BMW will be a M2 which is a very fun and still affordable and totally practical sportscar still available with a 6-spd manual...I am waiting for the 2-wheel equivalent ! With Telelever-Boxer-Driveshaft of course.
Happy new Year !

So you still don't understand what a GS is.

Thanks for sharing.

A GS is today what a Honda VFR , Ducati ST2/3/4 or BMW R1100(R)S used to be in their times...A sports-tourer aka practical sporty road bike ! Or do you think a bike weighing 260-280 Kg & costing 30 grand is suitable and ready to play with and thrown down in the dirt ? Despite the image 90% of all GS including mine never see the dirt or only unpaved roads very occasionally where could could take any other road bike...But the GS is more comfortable and faster / easier to ride fast than the sports-tourers of years ago ! But still not good enough to upgrade from a 1250 to a 1300...That was the reason of my posting and I gave the BMW the honey do list what still needs to be done to appeal to the even most loyal and jaded believers in the Boxer-TL-shaftdrive gospel to give them a reason to open the wallet faithfully again...LOL And please add some exitement last seen 25 years ago with the R1100S and Boxercup! Its about time , again instead of boring us with quieter exhausts and electric windscreens and blinkers that also are brakelights while the nerds only complain that they cant get no backlid blinker buttons like on the Multilala on Apple CAR play like on the Afreekatween....LOL 2.0

Your interpretation of what the GS needs, is not the same as what a GS is.

It's a sports tourer - things like an electric screen are important. A quicker 0-125MPH time is entirely pointless. Rideability is important. Lap times are not.

Since when's a GS been a sports tourer? :nenau I'm guessing from other responses you've not understood what a GS is in previous posts too. With all the changes you want to make to the GS it sounds more like you want an RT.

Whether you or anyone else takes the bike off-road doesn't stop the bike being what it is, an Adventure bike. Not using a bike for its intended purposes doesn't change what the bike is.

Once again boxerlust shows he is totally clueless :blast
Actually, I think he’s not far off spot on this time.

Doesn’t make a modern GS a bad thing. It’s just a recognition that when a GS has central locking, an electric screen and auto-box times have moved on and whatever today’s GS is, it isn’t what it used to be…

One reason not to get the 1300 is that it has been released since BMW's discontinuance of service manuals thus there will be none available from BMW nor from a third party.

For me, the 1300 isn't a big enough leap in anything to warrant a change. Although it does have some new toys and gimmicks if they're your thing !

It's a new model. So even though you can buy one, it's still very much in development. It will be another 1-2 years of endless recalls, software updates and other problems before it's reliable enough as to purchase as a "keeper"

BMW always perfect a model and then immediatly discontinue it.

These bikes do not last forever & when my 1250 GSA needs or just that I fancy replacing it, it'll almost certainly be the 1300 GSA.

It costs what it costs & there are no pockets in coffins!

Quite possibly there will be Chinese alternatives out there, but rather like my opinion of cars - I tend to stick to the old school 'proper' cars generally German too.

Each to their own & maybe BMW's competitors will react to the new 1300 range - let's see in time.
