New 2010 GS Oil

The new 2010GS has a different engine to the old one - should I use the same oil? Is 20/50 still the best? - what with all those new fangled cams and valves an stuff.

Just checking before I pick up the new bike in April, I need to be prepared

It depends on where your priorities lay.

If you want to preserve your warranty without hassle, use what BMW recommend.

If you want to try to save a bit of cash, use Value motor oil.

If you want a particularly quiet engine, use porridge made with full-fat milk - for this application, add sugar rather than salt.

Sounds good to me!!! - Great tip about the sugar, I almost forgot that salt will corrode my new shiny engine - thanks!!!!

I think BMW will be bringing a new oil out with POWER and RR in the title + an extra £5/ltr on the price. This is so that people can post saying how it's discraceful and that they've filled their £14k bike with Back-to-basics 3in1 oil from Tesco and everything is ok.

The HP2 Sport Engine - which is what the new GS engine is based on - uses Castrol Power1 Racing 4T 10/40 Fully Synthetic oil. However, the HP2S not only has DOHC, it has so much more to produce 133bhp.

So the new GS/RT engine probably wont use this oil

based on my own empiric research i have determined that the oil my tuna came in is not....


fit for porpoise.

's not my fault the sleeves have buckles on them and my arms are strapped behind my back.

Would work fine so long as your prepared to let the engine idle till it heats up. Oh wait your not allowed to let boxer engines idle as they will melt instantly. Curses to BMW for making such a not for fit for purpose engine! Why cant they just make an engine that doesn't need oil therefore stop all the oil threads completely.
Oh by the way your nice shiny new bike will come with a nice shiny new owners manual that will tell you exactly what oil to use.
