New 2010 GS Oil

It was just such a wonderful opportunity to start another oil thread!!! :D

Interestingly the 2010 manual specifies 10W40 for all temperatures greater than -20C.

Not a single mention of 20W\50 anywhere! In fact anything with a 20W is not mentioned.

Now that is interesting - seems like things have moved on a bit and this new high performing engine really does need something a bit better than the dino oil that its predecessors drank.

you sir,
will spend an eternity in Hell, standing in a cauldron.
with a fire lit under you.
with demons around you, arguing, debating, reading manuals, handbooks and consulting the biggest devil of all (the Internet).
as they try to work out.....

what type of oil to boil you in. :banghead:

And by the time they have worked out what oil to use I will be long gone :D

Castrol will be bringing out a new overhead cam twin cylinder oil cooled four valve twin spark engine oil in April. :thumb2

The new 2010GS has a different engine to the old one - should I use the same oil? Is 20/50 still the best? - what with all those new fangled cams and valves an stuff.

Just checking before I pick up the new bike in April, I need to be prepared :D

I expect that to be released right at the beginning of April - maybe to coincide with the new fiscal year??

Whattttttttttttttttttt Oillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

I think BMW will be bringing a new oil out with POWER and RR in the title + an extra £5/ltr on the price. This is so that people can post saying how it's discraceful and that they've filled their £14k bike with Back-to-basics 3in1 oil from Tesco and everything is ok.

Sir:
Since others have mentioned it, and you have inadvertanty done so, I would have you know that 3 in 1 oil is not a basic rubbish oil. It is a vegetable oil, in fact it is the most refined version of Castrol R that ever was made!

Don't think I could afford to fill the sump with it, though!

BMW are saying its even more specialised than that. Because the oil is filled on the right, rather than the left, the molecules are magnetically charged to flow down to the left of the engine.

This will of course cost an extra £5/ltr.

Basically you'll need to throw your left hand oil out............it'll be passed its use by date anyway.
