I'm getting a bit apprehensive now having had little GS experience and coming from an S1000RR.

I'm sure many of you have come from sports bikes, especially a litre superbike and would tell that my decision was sound.

I've owned several sports bikes including litre ones and can safely say i don't miss them at all having owned a gs (still own a cbr that never gets used). Handling on a gs is amazing and on the right road a sports bike will be no quicker.
I also tried a xr1000 before opting for the latest gs lc and I'm pleased I did. While the xr was fast I just couldn't live with the handle bar vibes. The gs on the other hand was like an old slipper and felt right from the off.
Happy trails

Handling and power are great, although coming from a 990 Adventure, I didn't find the GS inspiring to begin with, but grew to enjoy it over a couple of months. I bought it with head, rather than heart as the KTM was going down the toilet, and i didn't want another one and didn't like any of the other bikes in that group. I did the opposite, changing the GS for a GSA, which i love :D

I came from a GSXR1000. Haven't regretted it at all, and would never go back to a sports bike as an only bike, but I do occassionally consider buying one as a 2nd bike.

The only thing that I don't get from the GS so much is that 'pride of ownership'. Whereas I would clean the GSXR more than I rode it, and could just sit looking at it in the garage, it's the other way around with the GS.

The group I ride out with includes myself on the S1000RR, an R1 (just written off and about to be replaced with an S1000R), a K1300S and two S1000XR's (having previously replaced an R1200RT and an R1200GS).

I've done the speed thing and done plenty of track days. I took the RR out for a final spin last weekend and never got out of second. I think that says it all.

I've toured Scotland on the RR and endured the pain and this year I had them change a planned trip of John O'Groats to a week in South Wales because of me. I'm at that point where I felt that the RR, although a sexy beast to ride and look at, was limiting what I wanted to do. Having recently delivered my fathers car to Southern Spain and back vis Santander and Bilbao I found myself jealous of the fellas doing the European tours.

I think maybe that I had intended to keep the RR for one last year but a trip to Motorrad and an impulse decision had me changing bike before I got my head around the decision.

I have an S1000R as well but to be honest I could live with just the GS although I have always had sportbikes. It's not because I don't love the bike it's because we have shitty roads here and the only decent roads are heavily policed. It still has the same firm suspension pretty much of the RR so not great over bumpy roads.

In the end I find myself riding the GS a lot more...however I only go it 3 months ago.

Buell 1125R (Rotax engine) was my last sport bike - hellish fast - always felt that it would drop me into trouble & probably kill me in the end? R1200GS TE is the best bike I have ever owned & yes I did test the S1000RR before buying my GS never looked back - its the Swiss army knife of bikes, you should easily be able to out ride your mates on sport bikes as long as the road is twisty Enjoy!

I don't think you'll regret your decision, I've had 6 Fireblades in the last 13 years and as you say you've done the speed thing, now it's time to just enjoy being on a sensible bike that you can ride all day long and not feel pressured into ragging the arse out of it all the time. Did take a bit of getting used to though, but owning a GSA has made me love biking again as I was starting to lose interest, if I could afford to have both I've got a feeling the blade would spend a lot of time in the garage. You'll know you've made the right decision the 1st time you start loading it up for a European trip, nothing comes close to the buzz of setting off on a long trip

As above, the good thing about the GS is it really excels in the euro tours, get a few booked in and you'll wonder why you didn't get one years ago.

After owning several variants of the boxter engine bikes I was losing interest, there good but lack something that warrants me taking it for a Sunday blast ! So I sold my gs brought a new multistrada and have a tricked up R1200R that I use for touring .

GS is a keeper !

I went from 08 Fireblade to TC GS as i wanted a bike with character which i found in the GS, it Tours,it's fun in the twisties
and really shifts if your cruel with throttle, it does not make anything ache after i fiited a givi Airflow Screen, my only negative about the GS.
However, i have an Aprillia RSVR the last V Twin made just for those days, you know!

Beautiful girl who can be really fun but also fickle and moody, high maintenance to keep happy and entertained..... that's a sport bike. Girl that's not beautiful but cute in her one way, carries herself well, charming personality, great cook, great in bed, and just wonderful companion...... that's a GS.
