New Akro Can

it is BMW approved and badged after all

Where is it BMW badged ?

I must say that Akrapovic stuff is top notch, even if a tad pricey.

I have their slip-ons on my KTM Duke II and a full 2-2 Akra system on my Tuono.

Unfortunately the Tuono will have to go if I order a GSA12

Across the back - the name BMW. It's known as a Sports Silencer, BMW part numbers etc. and available from BMW dealers. Please believe me thats why it's £495.00. ;)

Manny, the existence of a removable baffle does not make the can lroad legal. Just to avoid any confusion, as I said in my post, I have just replaced my first Akro can with the BWM Akro, the first was definately stamped 'not for road use' and had a removable baffle. The BWM one has the 'E' stamp showing it is road legal and as mentioned previously has the BMW stamp on the back.

Performance wise, who knows, haven't ridden the bike with the new can on, but it sounds great with the baffle out, and looks superb, really enhances the look of the bike. Without putting it on the dyno, difficult to tell anyway.

JDH,

Thanks for the explanation.

I'm on the verge of going to my dealer today and ordering a GSA 1200 in white/red.

BUT having read all these stories on this forum of oil leaks/rusty bolts/build quality crap ever since GS1100,I'm having my doubts.

Comments ?

Have you ridden it yet?, how does it feel? I'm tempted to get one.

I bought an Akra Titanium slip on can with removable baffle from NN & it was clearly stamped Not for Road Use. When I queried this I was told that it had simply been made before they had the new rivetted strap that is E marked for road use, and I was told I could return it when they had these in & they would replace the rivetted strap with an E marked one.
My guess is that my can & the new BMW one are the same.

Ridden it quite a bit since fitting the new Can, excellent, smooth power delivery, pops a bit still but not as much as the previous Akra Titanium (non-road legal version). Sounds and looks fantastic, I'm very pleased with it.

Replacing the rivetted strap won't give you the same can, I've had both and can guarantee that.

Mine is the SP which is stated as for road use on their web site.

HELP!! Went to my local BMW dealer today with a view to buying this pipe. The geezer knew nothing about it and after playing with his computer thingy, he reckons it doesn't exist. Can you please give me the part number so I can ring him up and tell him he doesn't know his a**e from his elbow. Then I'll order one but expect a discount for my previous wasted journey. Ta. :rob

It does exist, but it may not be on the spares database yet, SPC have got one on their 12GS Adventure demo, and it is BMW etched at the inlet side of the can.

JDH/A N Other,

How did you get hold of the Akro/BMW can ?

My dealer says there is nothing on the system,so they can't order it.

Can you get a part number from your dealer/invoice etc ?

Yep, in fact, Hurst Motorad has one on a shelf in their showroom. Very light, very lovely, very desirible but bloody expensive.

Buy the standard can from Akrapovic for £200 less than the BMW one or if you want be very clever spend £250 on a new lid and you get your second item half price with Hein Gericke so you could have a new lid and SP can for less than the BMW badged can (£500)

I think I read on this post someone replaced the standard acro can with BMW one because it did not say it was road leagal on it, make them an offer and send it back to Akrapovic to have the collar replaced free of charge.

Never ceases to amaze me why some BMW Motorrad dealers don't bother reading all the new product information they all get sent........why should customers have to tell THEM part numbers..........?

Anyhow, when I get into the office tomorrow I'll post the correct part number......or you can simply order from us...£495.00 inc VAT & shipping anywhere in the UK......from stock!!

Cheers
