Can anyone recommend me a decent battery for my GSA? There are so many options out there so looking for some feedback on what people are using. I run a few extras such as heated gloves / jacket.

TA Steve

I put a Motobatt MBYZ16HD from Tayna Batteries on my Hexhead GSA for peace of mind, its slightly bigger capacity and fits fine. Nothing wrong with the OE battery it was just getting old and I didn't want to risk being stranded on a Euro-tour.

I've now sold the Hexhead in part-ex against a 1250GSA and the new battery now fits that bike too (I put the OE battery back on the Hexhead.)

I might need a new one lol

went to start this morning , and it didn't fire first prod...

but up and at em for the second ..

Going to be a big bill month

Insurance, warranty & a battery

I’ve had good service from my Odyssey battery on an 08 GSA. Battery must be 10 years old now, still going strong and never let me down.

My old bike had lithium and it was like that over winter and after long gaps of no use. Never went on a charger, never got any care, always started second press when cold.

Come spring through to autumn, first press every time, no issues.

Maybe wait for spring before you jump on a new battery.

Looking at the Motorbatt, what is the difference between the yellow ones and the black ones? Is it worth paying a bit extra for the black one?

TA Steve

The only difference is, the black with orange writing is sold for Harley Davidson Last 2 letters HD & HD colours.
I have not seen a price difference between that and the yellow battery from the supplier I have used.

Just replaced the Exide on my GSA.
It's on a trickle charger when the bike is not in use. Lasted probably 5 or 6 years, that is reasonable.

Another Exide it is. 40 quid happy.

Done the same on all my hexheads over the years, never an issue and the last two were still going strong after 5 years, although I am sure past their optimum.

The battery on the HP2, on solar trickle as well, has been working well for more than 6 years now. And that bike sits unused most of the time.
GS battery is a bit weak, to be fair it failed to start the bike twice after two nights parked outside at around 0/2 degrees. I reconditioned it a few times, but it was time for a replacement.

SO I received a new MBYZ16H yesterday....in BIG letters on the battery says ...No need to charge just fit and go. SO I fitted and went for a ride, after 20 mins pulled up to grab something and bike wouldn't start....WTF

Left it 20 mins and it started

Got home took it off and charged over night

Put it back on this morning, bike fired up first time, so turned it off, wouldn't start again and got a load of error messages. Circuit tester shows 12.9v.

Put old battery back on (BMW Exide) which had been on charge....no issues what so ever

Fricking annoying this bike

Same symptoms as my hexhead.

Next i tried adding a set of leads direct from the battery to the starter. This improved things, but did not resolve the poor hot starting

The only thing that did, was a new (refurbed) starter motor.

I replaced the yausa battery on my 2011 gsa last November turned out that had been the original battery from new so 11 years isn’t too bad from a battery .
