I really don't get that.
The Odyssey is physically too small for the hole, it's capacity doesn't match what BMW recommend; the terminals don't fit without a degree of faffing and it costs 50% more than a regular lead-acid which works perfectly well.

OEM gel battery. Odyssey's aren't made of special 'magic' they just trade cold cranking amps for capacity by using thicker plates. Perhaps useful in a bored out high compression Harley (or a forklift) but pretty pointless in a bike like ours. And then its not even the right physical size and the terminals don't fit - what a great idea...
I would go for a maintenance free gel battery just because due to its location, it's a bit of a pain in the arse to check / top up the electrolyte in a wet battery (probably the reason the battery in mine had about 1" of electrolyte in it when I bought it)

Agreed fell foul of the odyssey hype. It was crap, replaced by motoroworks to a regular battery that is diamond.
As steptoe will testify the regular battery must have cranked my bike 50 times to start on his drive without needing running to charge it.
Aw, come on guys Odyssey are great if you spend alot of time upside down or plan a trip into orbit as they were developed with the help of NASA like WD40 and that's great

I personally think they are all much of a muchness especially cold starts in winter. Optimate stuff helps.

As my original fit "BMW" battery has managed 6.5 years and almost 61,000 miles and is still going strong it will be replaced with the same!

Well just replaced the starter motor on my bike as it was still have issues starting and this was literally the only part not replaced!
5 months since I crashed the bike and its not been ridden (other that from trailer into the dealership and back onto trailer for repairs).
Changed motor, key in bike, start. Vrooom.
First time after 5 months stood in the garage. Who needs an optimate.

Ah but did the ABS kick in?
No
Than again if it did I'd be surprised as its sitting on the shelf in the garage as I removed it last year

When I bough my 2002 1150 I had to remove a two year old odyssey as it had failed. I replaced it with a BMW gel and plug it into a charger all winter.
No probs and cheaper!

It might have fallen off the shelf with a similar "clunk"
Did the same with my K11LT (soon for sale
) and now the ABS is in a box the K battery seems so much happier...Kibby
