Good luck with your new bike, deal sounds perfect..
the nav 5 is in my opinion as good as a nav 6. Worth £235 all day

Just noticed something online at the dealers... I specifically asked if it was a one owner bike, and the sales guy said yes. But looking on line it says two owners!!
so what's correct? I asked because I didn't want an ex-demo etc..
But if it turns out it is a two owner bike.. what to do?..

Usually spot the demo bikes by the amount of corrosion on them, in my opinion they usually don’t get looked after by the salesman & valet dept, so depends on the bike really..
I also don’t like demo bikes, but late 2017 I bought an Urban Gs with 135 miles on, it had been registered to dealer (no doubt to hit registration targets) & it’s still in perfect condition.

Just tell them you would like to have it for a few hours on the road to be sure in your mind, it will remove the gremlins in your head, and EX-demos are not all bad, you might get some secret Press software in the bike..........:D

I’d guess it was just pre registered for the dealer to hit the sales targets. So owner one BMW , might not have had just one mile on it then, owner 2 the one before you , owner 3 you. However....the sales person should have made you aware of this. If he hasn’t, what else is he hiding? Two previous owners would mean the bike is of less value ?

TBH, they had a few around this vintage about 7 in all.. I went to look at one with lower miles, but in comparison to my 15 plate which is mint, it wasn't as good... I then looked at them all and chose this one on conditionj... its the best they had... I could only find 1 small mark on the rear grab rail where a boot has caught it and thats only about 1mm square so its mint.... engine, arm, final drive all perfect... I look at the exposed metal on the castings.. some were dull, but this was shiny machined like mine.. so not been in salt.

So if it has been a demo, its been very well cared for .... as you say, it may of been pre-registered to get the numbers up as it's a September reg.
But if it is ex-demo im not keen on that as I know how people treat them on test rides :)

And the bigger thing to me is the fact I asked and he's kind of covered it up.. I remember his answer.. it wasnt a full on 'Yes'... he sort of mumbled a yes? As you say.. what else are they covering up??

I would do exactly what you've done , choose the one in best condition and if it has a two year warranty any problems will be sorted. Happy days go for it.

Your right.. its covered.. but should it be less with 2 owners than 1 owner?.. TBH he offered the PX figure on my bike without even looking.. it could of been a right shed... as it is its mint.. but I don't like the way they deal on these things now.. nothing is on condition, miles , owners (it would appear)... they are just worth what the book says in £ thats it...

Im going to push them on Monday.. see if I can get a bit more off or something (Nav 5? ) thrown in ;)

If you do not manage to get a Nav 5 for free, consider using a smartphone.
I have tried the nav 4, 5, & 6. to be honest they are good. However for me i was fed up of carrying two devices. Only used the satnav twice a year.
Googlemaps is in my opinion brilliant. You can navigate direct from google, real time traffic, see txt messages pop up etc.
Its so easy to load booking.com and navigate directly - my nav 5 struggled to find hotels in Spain in the blistering heat! had to tape my phone onto the handlebars and i was sold!
Yes u can link your phone to Garmin but just prefer using my phone. Dont miss the wonder wheel - gimmick and not a game changer.

As a backup i have TomTom go on the phone in case no internet connection - worldwide for £15 sobs a year.

Each to their own but a different option to consider. I will not go back to a dedicated satnav again but lots of riders prefer them so personal choice

In fact i would not pay £150 for a nav 5. Less said about that the better :D

Used my phone on the last one.. but always scared of it getting wet and then I've lost everything if away... So will see if I can get one.. some around for £240 now..

If it pours just chuck in the top box connected to a power bank and turn the spoken instructions on.

Most phones now are water proof but stipulate after getting wet do not charge for 8 hours. I'm sure sure if the rules are different for wireless charging phones. GS has a decent screen or worst case just get one of those awful looking pizza delivery boy cases.

but isnt the nav 5 waterproof? last small tour I did was in Irealand and on the return leg it hammered it down all the way... had to take my phone out of its cover and as you say, put it in the top box... the tank bag was wet inside so the map melted.. so just had the signs to get back which worked out fine, but that made me think of getting a nav unit.

Nav 5 and 6 are waterproof, had a few belters on my nav6 no problems at all, only thing you must do is charge the thing up for an hour or so on the mains if you have not had the bike out for 2 weeks, otherwise takes about an hours riding, and then stop and start the bike for the NAV to come to life, god knows why but even when you turn it off the battery still goes down, must be some sort of sleep mode when in the cradle.

heading for the 5 I guess... watching some on e-bay .. will see

just looking at headlight costs FFS.. do you have a protection thing fitted?

Have a wunderlich headlight protector fitted. Nothing hit so far but wouldn't be without it.

Yep because them led headlights are not cheap if you get a stone, did you PM Sadjim

Yes, but no reply.. maybe hes away?... will look into a protector.. remember when I got the TVR re-sprayed... it was mint, but driving back from the paint shop a huge stone hit my front end... I was bricking it to go look. As luck would have it, the thing had smashed through my indicator and not touched anything else.. phew!... but it would be just my luck to get it smashed on the first ride.. so will get one bought and fitted :thumb
