Ok this is embarrising. I have just received a new bikeR1250gs ralley delivered to my door 4 miles on clock removed from van and admired it.
started and listened to it all good.
used kill switch to switch of while i checked how screen worked 2 min past and went to restart And bike tried to start just up to high compression and then dash and eletricks went funny and shut bike down strange i thought mabey i did not hold switch long enough .
I found fault code. Fault in engine controler onward journy possible ride carfully to next specialist workshop.
Switched of at main switch and retried. she re started all good .
used kill switch and again waited 2 min and no restart 4 miles on clock ?
John clark has told me that they will get bike lifted once the reg is sorted(This now takes weeks) need reg to activate warnty .
bike paid for first week of march.
Sales man has told me he will get the bike checked over and the battery looked at.
sales man has sald that Bmw do not recomend multiple starts in quick succession bmw have said this is a no no .
My answer was i can not find this in the hand book .
Your thoughts would be appreciated and be gentle re my grammer.

Ask your dealer to collect the bike and rectify the fault. If they hesitate or give you any grief then reject the bike and ask for your money back.

You shouldnt have such issues with a new bike.

Think I read elsewhere that if you have more than a couple of accessories switched on, the battery can’t cope and will complain by failing to have enough juice to turn the bike over.
Whether this is acceptable on an £18k bike is another story.
Sorry to hear that your excitement at receiving a new bike has been instantly deflated. Not great, is it !

I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions yet. The battery may simply not have received a decent charge from new. Whilst that might indicate a less than great pdi, it might not mean anything more. If it were me I would put it on charge and see what happens if you repeat the process after. The dash warnings are normal when the batt voltage falls below the required threshold during cranking.

Likely worse case scenario, you have a bad batt, which is their problem not yours but an easy fix all the same.

Congrats on your new bike :thumb2

Unfortunately this is quite a common problem. Mine has done this 5 times in a month. It’s booked in for battery load testing next week. Big thread on adventure rider regarding this. The causes vary from a bad cell in the battery, to valve clearances on left cylinder bank namely the exhaust one as well as the compression release valve which is supposed to release the compression when engine stops so the starter is not trying to crank against a high compression cylinder in the just before spark position

I know you’ll get it sorted but a shame on new bike day

Just check the plugs on the wires that lead to the throttle controller are secure. they may have come loose during the transportation or loosened by the straps they use.

John Clark’s and I have history, “your bike will be ready Saturday” (many years ago now it has to be said), phone call, are you on your way, yes, you bike has not been pdi’d. But you can still take it away! Oh and by the way we have the boxes (panniers) but no locks, but you can take them away, the obvious question, how if there are no locks to fix them on the bike.

:nenau

What a shit start to your ownership. As has already been suggested you should ask the dealer to come and retrieve the bike asap and sort it out.

Keyless then, but I wouldn't bother with that keyless shite

I was ambivalent about keyless until I stopped at the petrol station at the weekend. Bike off, pulled the cap. Nothing. A few cycles of ignition on and off and finally the cap opened. It’s the first time it’s happened, what’s the betting it will be the last? What a stupid, stupid piece of technology.

This.

When my battery was struggling during the cold a month or so ago, it was throwing up various error messages that went away when using the wheel on the left. I checked with my GS 911 and there were no error codes stored.

Dealer told me that if the bike is struggling to turn the ECU shuts non essentials down.

just now After 48 hours and lots of phone calls and e mails i have a collection aranged for today 1530 hrs so time will tell .They are agood bike apart from all the nigley things that can piss you off

Yes there is another story here regarding John clark which i will not say much about But after involving BMW UK This bike was discounted to me to make up for a long list of failurs by john Clark.

Thanks for the response i belive the valve clearence is a strong possibility i have had the optomate 4 on and no change
But when a dealer says bike dose not like multiple starts i was thinking there is somthing wrong here after only asking the bike to start 2 times.i will let you Know what comes of this.

I think it's great - what's not to like?

You need a key for GS panniers, so a farce

If you need a key for the panniers then you might as well use it in your ignition and Petrol cap

A solution to an issue that never existed and foisted on you by manufacturers who are partaking in a techno fest
