Ok this is embarrising. I have just received a new bikeR1250gs ralley delivered to my door 4 miles on clock removed from van and admired it.
started and listened to it all good.
used kill switch to switch of while i checked how screen worked 2 min past and went to restart And bike tried to start just up to high compression and then dash and eletricks went funny and shut bike down strange i thought mabey i did not hold switch long enough .
I found fault code. Fault in engine controler onward journy possible ride carfully to next specialist workshop.
Switched of at main switch and retried. she re started all good .
used kill switch and again waited 2 min and no restart 4 miles on clock ?
John clark has told me that they will get bike lifted once the reg is sorted(This now takes weeks) need reg to activate warnty .
bike paid for first week of march.
Sales man has told me he will get the bike checked over and the battery looked at.
sales man has sald that Bmw do not recomend multiple starts in quick succession bmw have said this is a no no .
My answer was i can not find this in the hand book .
Your thoughts would be appreciated and be gentle re my grammer.

Precisely the same issue I had, same bike, same dealer. The battery is flat and in my case one of the battery cables wasn’t tight.

I used a jump pack to start mine ( not jump cables).

John Clarke provided best price but support has not been impressive.

Oh no :( What a frustrating and disappointing way to start your ownership experience.
I hope for a swift and satisfactory resolution for you :thumby:

You need a key for GS panniers, so a farce

If you need a key for the panniers then you might as well use it in your ignition and Petrol cap

A solution to an issue that never existed and foisted on you by manufacturers who are partaking in a techno fest

My panniers are on for about two weeks a year and top box about the same - other than that I use a large or small BMW tank bag.

The bike is used most days.

It's called progress - I'm sure it will soon reach North Yorkshire...

Unfortunately this is quite a common problem. Mine has done this 5 times in a month.

I had the same with my 1250GS 3 times, after filling up with petrol. Turned off waited 5 minutes started again fault gone from the screen. No fault registered when the dealer had a look.
Now I had the same on the 2008 1200RT, however besides a fault on the screen (engine symbol) the bike would not start. Turned on/off few times, it was dead. I was in France at the time in the middle of nowhere during Bastille Day. Called my dealer in UK and he told me to leave the bike turned off, key out for 20 minute and try to restart after that time period. It worked. Never happed again.:nenau

Glad you've got the dealer to come out & collect your bike, as for them originally telling you they would collect after the reg is sorted !.
What would have happened if this fault had occured out of hours while out on a ride would you be able to get BMW assist out if your bike is not yet registered fully with the mother ship !
Hope you get it sorted quickly,

Ian.

so the lattest is the roadside assist has called me and advised me if he can git bike going it is down to me to ride thr bike to Dealer
First thing the bike is faulty
second thing i run a small engineering company and i did not buy an new bike to have this shit my costumers would not except this or would i put this shit to them.
the bike is nor registered yet so the bike is not road worthy.

Easier to reject if not registered. Feel your pain. Is this John Clarke ?

Load of shite is keyless and you know it

ok so BMW uk have told me they will not pick up the bike as roadside assist can get bike going and i can ride bike to dealer When the bike is registered on the road Total shite from all conserned with this .

I always use the keyless button to switch off the bike. I don’t know if this is any different to using the kill switch - kinda like a hard or soft option. Well ‘in my head’ I think the bike likes it. :D

I like it - not that placing a key in the ignition is particularly difficult.

Not had any issues with the fuel cap or keyless battery and I know that I'm never going to forget to remove the key from the ignition.

I had this when I bought a new scrambler, dealer came and collected it, had it for 2 weeks and all sorted, I also had petrol pissing everywhere.

No problems since and no explanation of what was wrong, I believe this to be because no one knew, too complicated bikes, no need for it...I just want to ride it without crashing, that`ll do for me.

I love keyless. No faffing about with gloves on and off to put keys in pockets, just get off and walk away! We don't all ride everywhere with panniers on... When it's wet and I need to refuel, I can do the whole thing without taking gloves off and getting wet hands and therefore rain inside gloves.

(Had keyless on last bike, and that had central locking for panniers and top box too!)

TO answer the original question: while things sometimes go wrong, I would expect a whole lot more effort from the dealer to rectify. Saying "you need to wait until reg is sorted before warranty applies" sounds like a lame excuse. I bet they didn't make you wait until the reg was sorted before asking you to pay!

Seems like they've pulled their finger out a bit since you first posted, but I would have expected them to collect the bike the day you reported the fault (or the next morning).

When I bought a nearly new (ex-demo) bike a few years ago, it developed an electronic fault within a couple of weeks. I called them - very unhappy - and the recovery truck was there the same day. Bike delivered back to me two days later with new bits fitted - and a lot more costly bits than a new battery (about £1200 from memory).

Why do people insist on turning the bike off with the kill switch. That is not how you switch the bike off under normal circumstances, it’s an emergency kill switch.

I'm sure I've seen a vid that showed it makes no difference whatsoever how you stop your bike. In fact IIRC my Tracer had a start stop switch as the kill switch.

Edit*

I have done that with every bike I have had fitted with a kill switch for the last 50 years, with no problems at all.
Why? Because i have short legs! Pull up in gear (So it doesn't roll off), flick the switch, put side stand down, get off, switch off main ignition switch and then I may or may not put it on the centre stand. I never leave any bike on the side stand out of gear as I have seen too many roll off. And i ride them, the first 3 I come to in the garage have 454,000 miles between them so you can hardly say I have been lucky. Both switches are just that, Current interrupters, on or off.
