A few weeks back I took delivery of my sixth GS, a never-registered 3/17 build 1200TE sourced from a country dealer here in Oz for a very good price ; in fact, it was AUD6000 cheaper than my ‘14 WC, so I actually saved money by buying it :beerjug:,
however both the new ‘14 and the new ‘17 were presented with oil levels which were only visible when the bike was on the side stand ; the oil level was waaay too high.
Is this the norm for WC GS’s as delivered ?

Just had a dig for you

I knew I had seen this somewhere:
"If you fill the engine with the exact measurement of oil as specified by BMW ithe level reads above the oil sight glass i.e. Full .... So don't worry about it. Look at the level in the morning before you start the bike, as long as you can see oil anywhere in the sight glass it'll be fine."

Mine was at the very top of the sight glass after it's 600 mile service too (and I think it still is at 4000 miles later).

thats an 2011 they are on about.. not LC.. if you can see it on the side stand, I'd say its way too much!

Mine was topped to the top of the sight glass by the dealer and I could see nothing in the glass when on the side stand.. so it must be way over filled IMO.. I'd get some out!

Yes way too much , it should be within the circle in the sight glass when on the centre stand , so get some out or it will blow it out somewhere it shouldn't.
Don't see many GSs down your way.

Book says run it for 'till warm then wait 5 mins- extract below

Misinterpretation of oil level
reading, because oil level is
temperature-dependent (the
higher the temperature, the
higher the oil level)
Engine damage
Check the oil level only
after a lengthy ride or when
the engine is at operating
temperature.
Switch off the engine when it is
at operating temperature.
Make sure the ground is level
and firm and place the motorcycle
on its centre stand.
Wait five minutes for the oil to
drain into the oil pan.
