When mine was new I got hold of a roll of black and a roll of silver gaffer tape. I put the appropriate colours on the fork legs to help stop stone chips, and some on the shaft housing to stop my foot wearing the paint off. I also wish I'd took the panniers to a vehicle vinyl place and got them covered, especially the lids.
