I know what you mean about the front spocket cover trapping dirt.I keep mine on but always take it off when i get home and clean the bike.I have seen an aftermarket cover which had big gaps to help allow mud etc out.Unfortunately i can't remember where

Cheers Doyle. I'll hunt around for a sprocket cover that lets some crap out and let you know what I find. The OEM one can't do the chain much good as the mud and grit gathers behind it then acts like a grinding paste.

Re gearing, would you recommend 14/47 for the S? Do you find it better uphill, especially in muddy conditions when the rear wheel is likely to lose grip?

I've tried a 50 on the back,but to be honest i didn't find it much of an advantage,plus it made the chain a bit tight.
I don't think you can go far wrong with 14/47 good in extreme conditions and good on faster trails.
Plus you can put a 15 on the front with the same chain length and get better road gearing and still be able to ride trails .
I think going up or down a tooth on the front is equivalent to 3 teeth on the rear sprocket.

Keep an eye on the output shaft oil seal. This grinding paste effect will bigger it up. Mine lasted 2k before is started to show signs of weeping. Only about £4 or so from Suzuki, but you will also need a pair of those Phillips screws as you'll probably bigger them up getting them off.

Easy preventative repair. I've seen them spew all the oil out on a ride if not changed in time.

Is that the oil seal behind the spacer and front sprocket? If so, a new one has just been fitted along with a stainless steel spacer.

Yes thats the one Lee,the sprocket nut has to be very tight ,i think 79ftlbs to hold everything in place.
