New clocks inbound!

So I was riding around today to various meetings, when I glanced down and see my clocks half filled with condensation! Happened very quickly, no obvious reason for it, sure it was chilly and sunny, but I ride all year and not had it before.

On way home dropped into North Oxford dealer, who explained that BMW think there is a dodgy batch out there and have arranged for replacement clocks. 8-10 week lead time on getting them, so sounds like Germany are struggling to keep up with the demand. Something to do with the coating used on this batch. Good its getting sorted no quibbles, again solid and rapid resolution from North Oxford BMW, full credit to them. Now just waiting on Germany supplying new clocks to have them fitted.

I to have a 2014 GSA and suffer with the same condensation problem.

If the problem is just down to the inside coating surely they would just replace the clear plastic face of the clock as it's available as a part, or do you know for a fact that they have replaced the entire unit.

Also when I approached the BMW dealer about the problem, they just acknowledged it and replied it's cold, hence there was nothing they could do. Did you demand for it to be replaced or was it there suggestion. I ask as I'm wondering if I should go back and give it another go.

Help on this questions would be greatly appreciated.

It does seem diffrent dealers show diffrent levels of botheredNess, some seem happy to go out their way to help the customer when somethings clearly wrong others seem to just refuse anything could possibly be wrong with an lc gs, like they've been brainwashed into thinking these things can't but are going wrong..

Of course that attitude could be caused by dealers getting peed off with numerous warranty claims on certain models which get paid at an unrealistically low rate of hours by bmw and so ending up out of pocket

Hi, they said they were ordering in replacement clocks, the whole unit, rather than just the plastic.

I went into the dealer and told them my clocks were condensed and wandered if someone may be able to take a look. The dealer popped out to the mechanics and came back and said, this is a known issue and they would order new clocks. They didn't even look at the condensation, I offered if they wanted to come out and take a look and take pictures, but they said no-need and new clocks were ordered up. Impressive stuff and certainly no need to be demanding, in fact it was them who offered up the replacement rather than me having to.

I wonder is these "known issue" faults like the clocks, switchgear etc will get replaced without fuss on a bike that is out of warranty like my September 2013 GS TE if they fail ?

Not new issues oxfordshirerider, I'm on 3rd screen now. First failed as pictured in the thread below, and 2 subsequent ones have had condensation. The latest one doesn't suffer half as bad as the replacement but it happens, the latest RT clocks seem to suffer too.
I was told back then that BMW were well aware and it was faulty seals that caused it.

Just chatted to parts manager at the dealer, to find out details, as I said I had spoken to Sales guy (who spoke to workshop engineer). Parts manager, clarified that it is a part that BMW are re-supplying, so assume the front end, like you hinted too before rather than entire clock unit. Will let you know if/when I find out anymore.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd be interested to know as I took mine of the bike out of frustration and discovered there is a coating on the inside of the glass (don't touch it). When I held it up to a bright light it appears to be thinner or inconsistent in someway. I believe this to be the problem not the seal or the actual clock. Was looking on the net to find spray to reapply to the surface before committing to buying a new glass face.

Mine misting, bmw say they will replace the front only in 8 weeks time, not the clocks, warranty done in 4 weeks, what happens if it does not cure the misting
