new glasses

I need a new pair of glasses (coz I'm old!). I am thinking of buying a pair with reactolite(not sure of the spelling) and want to know if they work behind a visor. Has anybody out there got experience of this type of glasses.
Also have a BMW system helmet and finding it very uncomfortable as the headband has not bedded in as has been the case with other helmets. Any suggestions

I've had reactolite glasses for years and they do react when you have the visor down. I've not noticed any problem with the other than emerging from badly lit tunnels into the sun and then they take a bit of time re-darkening.

My current ones are Nikon lenses and they seem okay but never get as dark when it is very bright as "real" sunglasses like Ray Bans.

I pick up a pair of Pentax lensed glasses at the weekend and now I am old I have had a pair of varifolcals! MOre hassle no doubt getitng used to them, these too will have the same style of reacting lenses.

Maybe Visor technology has changed. My lenses DO NOT react with the visor down - modern visor technology has UV protection same as car windscreens. Certainly the original BMW visors for the Sport-Intergral and the orginal Shoei visor for the Multitech.

I can definitely recommend the Shoei Multitech for use with glasses - there are special cut-out channels above the ears to allow glasses frames to fit comfortably.

Forgot that bit... although my glasses react when wearing my C2 and also when I wear the older Caberg J1S.... the Schuberth is a bit tight for glasses and I often have the single tramline from side of my eye to my ears!

The car windscreen is (usually) made out of Glass, this is what stops the UV. Which is why you wont get sunburnt in a car with the windows / roof up.

I use reactolights with my Shoei Multitech and they do change behind the visor, but not as much as with it up. It might be because I use a graduated tint visor on it which works well in itself - a quick tilt of the head to darken/lighten vision.

I use reacterlight glasses and they were fine under my Shoei Raid which also has a reacterlight pin lock on it

Caberg v2 helmet has a tinted flip down visor n its ok with glasses. £90 ish.
mine are photochromatic lenses n work well with visor down .

i found when riding steady you can leve the main visor up n just use the flip down tinted visor. (day time ov course)

Hello Barrie,

I've got a BMW system 5 helmet (not recommended incidentally) and use it with photochromic (similar to Reactolite which is a trade name) glasses without any problem.

My distance vision is still great but I need glasses for reading so I've got photochromic bifocals, distance is standard glass but close set up for reading which allows me to read a map in the tankbag without having to stop and put on reading glasses.

They work a treat and in fact I use them exclusively when sailing as well as they allow chart work and helming without the fuss of swapping back and forward between sunglasses and prescription glasses.

Thoroughly recommended though not a cheap option.

I bought a set of silohette rinmless glassess specifically so I could wear them with comfort under my Lid, they are reactolite from Spec savers but I don't think they react much under the visor and I would still use a dark lens. As for people recomending or not recomending the system 5 (which I one of) or any other lid for that matter it's really what works for you, I find my Sys5 spot on but obvisouly other have issues, like any gear you can search for issue but most of the time the results are mixed, best of luck with what you end up using.
