New jacket - Help please

Hi All

Am considering a new jacket.

Have read lots of forum and that its worth spending once and not twice (as I have done in the past!).

Am thinking of heading for a BMW Rallye tw*t suit (only jacket - not trousers!! only half tw*t?).

Questions :-

1) From reviews it seems they are not great in the cold of the uk? Is this most peoples experience - i tend to ride most Mar - Oct in all weather?

2) Am slightly concerned on protection - some reviews seem to rate the jacket for falling off in the desert but not at speed on tarmac?

3) Size - BMW sizing chart is a waste of time for me - Can anyone of similar shape to me tell me their sizing recommendations? Height - 6'4", Waist 34", Chest 40", Hips 40".

Can't comments on the R3Pro jacket but had a big road crash in the R2Pro jacket which stood up pretty well and apart from dislocating my shoulder, which no jacket would of stopped, I only had a slight bit of road rash to one elbow where I think the armour pad had moved owing to not having the liner in and the arm zips open.

That said I replaced with a Rukka Allroad suit which I rate even higher than the BMW Rallye stuff albeit the venting isn't as good which, more often than not, is a good thing in the UK climate .

If it was my money I'd go BMW or Rukka as both are well featured and well armoured but if money is an issue take a look at the Hein Gerike stuff thats a bit cheaper and liked by many on here

What put me off buying the BMW item (3 years ago) was that it was only waterproof with the thermal lining in.. so if it rains when it's warm,(i.e. a British Summer) you either, Get Wet, Get Hot, or as was recommended to me by the sales lady, carry another waterproof over-garment to keep dry. Too much faffing about for me.

I don't know if this is still the situation with them.

I went for the Hein Gericke 'Cruise GTX' a great jacket I'm very pleased with it.

I would think you would be a special size with your height. You might be looking at a Euro 102 or possibly Euro 106 if you need more room. Dealers can special order at no obligation to you.

I'm looking into the Rallye 3 myself.
I like the fact it has ventillation which is something I've been struggling with recently as I only have a leather jacket.
I did a weekend around the peak district a couple of weeks ago and really suffered with the heat as my jacket just traps it in.
I guess there's plenty of options around but I haven't seen anything yet as not a lot of choice around here.
The guys at BMW are helpful and I like the look.
This may help you out but I was chatting to a customer in BMW dealer last week that was wearing the Rallye 2 and he really rated it. When I asked about messing around putting in the liner he said he only used it in the winter and put on a few layers its fine and doesn't get cold.
He'd been caught out in rain, didn't have liners but he said it was fine.
He was a courier for years and if he'd realised how good and comfortable it was he would have bought it a lot sooner.
Keep us informed as to your decision, I for one will be very interested.

Might I suggest the Revitt Off Track. I bought one a little while ago following some good feedback from this very parish.

Think it might be an outgoing model though as I have struggled to find many in the UK. I ordered mine from FCmoto in Germany who were excellent, great service and the best bit.....the price. Reduced from €330 to €180 be foolish not too at that price and the styling is similar to the Rallye gear.

At that price you could afford to upgrade the armour (even though it is CE approved stuff) and still have some pennies left.

Size wise I found them a good fit with good sleeve and jacket length ( I am also 6' 4", but, how can I put this? a slghtly different body shape - 34" waist? maybe when I was born!)

I've just sorted myself a jacket too.

I did initially go for a Held Hakuna but it was only waterproof with the thermal lining in it so I sent it back.

I have gone for the Revit Sand jacket which replaces the Offtrack jacket.
I tried both but preferred the fit and look of the sand.
Has seperate waterproof and thermal linings, vents, waterproof pockets etc.

I am quite impressed with it and it is really comfortable.

Only had it just over a week so can't really comment much more than this.

Got mine from B & B road and trials in Barnsley.
Top chaps. Told me I needed a size smaller than I was going to order and ordered for me without taking any payment.
Wanted to make sure it fitted and I was completely happy before I paid for it.
Two year manufacturers warranty on the jacket too.

I've just bought Revit Sand jacket (from motoin.de) and trousers (from bikestop.co.uk). The Revit gear seems to be very well put together and while I haven't used it in the winter yet, seems to be true 4 seasons gear. My personal opinion is that the quality is excellent, at a great price.

The BMW gear is excellent. The Rallye series of clothing is just that - for rallies and as such is really well ventilated and the protection is first class. This is the reason some find it cold in the winter. It isn't designed or this.
That said, I still think it is the best for warm weather and if it rains I have a Berghaus Paclite top. In cold weather I wear a liner and more layers.

Just bought the latest Hein Gericke jacket wiv da Rubber Zip !!
Apparently these zips are from Diver suits and therefore totally waterproof.Guy in store said they are Guaranteed for life,so I took mine back twice cos it wouldnt close properly !!!

Got new jacket first time cos zip had gone out of alignment,second time zip fixed by means of 'E-Zip' brill product for all zip types.
Being Rubber,the zip will stiffen eventually but the E-Zip lubricates it and it works perfectly,as do the Air Vents on the chest.

Whilst I was wearing the jacket and the zip was ok,I got seriously rained on up a mountain in Switzerland and nothing penetrated at all.
The matching Trousers are great,not big baggy things and they have removable Braces with a front panel to keep you even warmer on a crappy day.
The whole suit was not at all cheap but I was totally pissed of with getting wet in supposedly 'Waterproof' clothing !

There you go,you pays your money you makes your choice !
