New jacket - Help please

Having only just recently purchased a Rukka Armas jacket, with unit trousers, I can only say good things about it so far.

It definately seems like a jacket for life, and ideally suited for the British climate. Totally waterproof, comfortable, with all the Outlast and 'Cool Black' technology it does seem to keep you both warm, and cool, when necessary.

Then there is the array of pockets..all which seem to be waterproof from what I can tell.

The protection is second to none I'd say too.

I'm off on a months trip around Eastern Europe, so I'll report back soon.

I did have a BMW R2Pro suit....but although I found it very well made, I found it far to cold in the arms when cold, and found the outer layer getting saturated in a downpour really annoying, as although you didn't get wet the coldness would transfer through (...again, especially in the arms). As I recall most of the outer pockets weren't waterproof either.

The other issue I had, was that the jacket was very heavy...the Rukka is nowhere near as heavy.

Many of these problems may have been resolved with the new R3Pro suit?

The other jacket I'd recommend is the Revit Cayenne Pro.....if I'd have been able to get the suit in the sizes/colours that I was after, then I'd have gone for one of them to be honest. a very well made, comfortable, well thought out suit...better than the BMW one I'd say...and cheaper!

.....but stock seems very low, well at least in my sizings (slim)....maybe a new Cayenne Pro for 2011??

As has been suggested Hein Gericke do some good stuff, and with heavy discounts at the moment.

I think when deciding on a new suit, you've got to take your time, try on as many as possible, set your requirements, and try to get the best compromise of price and spec for your needs.

Personally I'd say.....

..the Armas is a 'for life' jacket.

...the Cayenne Pro is a sturdy jacket that will give a good few years good service.

....and the BMW is a fine jacket that doesn't really do anything brilliantly, or anything particulaly badly....but you'll tire of it quickly.

Hope that helps :thumb2

i would think the question is how do you use your bike? Mine is for pleasure only and holidays. I now have the new Airflow, suits me fine. Windbreaker under it for mornings at altitude, rain suit for the bad moments. I have rally2 pants too, they're great, but thought rally2 jacket was way too heavy, and too much for what I do.

Bought my Rallye jacket last year for a trip round central Spain where it was hitting 40c at the time. Needed a jacket that would also cope with the regular rain through mid France on the return. The Rallye was the perfect compromise. I use a Rukka Arma for my work commute and even with its special 'cool' ingredient soon overheat compared to the BMW one. The Rukka is substantially lighter though and avoids the 'long way' clone tag

I see that you live in Wiltshire If I were you Ide take a trip up to George Whites they seem to have some good offers there I have a Rally 2 suit but have just got a Frank Thomas Senegal suit for the summer for less than £200:thumb2

Thanks for all responses - keep em comming.

Currently building up for an Armas I think.

Like the RP3 but don't like the idea of soggy jacket with goretex liner. Would rather keep the rain out.

Have seen an Armax and Armas jacket. Even though there are great deals to be had on the armax, the shoulder blade vents to push air down your back seem to be a really good idea - especially on an adventure.

Keep posting other tosser thoughts, but I think I am certainly gonna go Rukka.:thumb

Hi All

Am considering a new jacket.

Have read lots of forum and that its worth spending once and not twice (as I have done in the past!).

Am thinking of heading for a BMW Rallye tw*t suit (only jacket - not trousers!! only half tw*t?).

Questions :-

1) From reviews it seems they are not great in the cold of the uk? Is this most peoples experience - i tend to ride most Mar - Oct in all weather?

2) Am slightly concerned on protection - some reviews seem to rate the jacket for falling off in the desert but not at speed on tarmac?

3) Size - BMW sizing chart is a waste of time for me - Can anyone of similar shape to me tell me their sizing recommendations? Height - 6'4", Waist 34", Chest 40", Hips 40".

All comments - serious and amusing welcome - also reason why I should buy something else welcome..........:thumb

Twat suit is just that! It's far too 'BMW uniform' for me - however some of the BMW gear is great without making you look like a member of a sad old man's club!

The Boulder jacket and City trousers work for me and if it is wet I use an AlpineStars El Nino oversuit - if it is cold just put another jumper on.

My Revit Cayenne Pro Jacket has earned it's dosh back after a good slide down the road, not too high a speed but enough to say it's worth every penny. Damage to the jacket was minimal with just a sprained shoulder for yours truly.

Only worn under the Asian sun so cannot comment on the thermal or water proof properties but venting seems to be ok.
