New KTM 1190 Adventure/R

Tell me about these WP shocks, will they outlast the BMW dynamic things ? I ask cos I'm not well up on this and have just read that KTM own WP:nenau
This 1190 is making my heart race and will be in GSA territory cost wise.

Absolutely.WP shocks are far superior to the BMW OE shite.

KTM have been using WP for years and liked them so much they bought the company. All their race bikes such as EXC/SFs etc have WP suspension.

Right, I'm booking a test ride ASAP :D

When is the launch date ? Not seen it yet !!

But I musn't try one as havent got £13k plus to replace my lovely 950SE !!!

They have an Adventure R currently sat in the showroom at Premier Bike, Didcot and they had an open day on Sunday 24th Feb when they had a standard 1190 Adventure on display

I'm not sure when the 'official' launch is though?

Oh, forget to say, peejay, on here, has just done a review on the 1190 for ABR Magazine. The small pillion seat seemed to be the only criticism. Would Peejay like to comment or is he contractually forbidden ?

Saw the R model at the scottish bike show.mmmmmmmmmmm much as i like ktm's and their stand held most appeal for me.I couldn't make up my mind about the new bike.I prefer the look and style of the 990adv. The new adv seems a cross between the adv and smt.Which i'm sure will make it an awsome bike to ride.
Why is it all manufacturers are building bikes with foghorn end cans? Is it emissions?

KTM dealer in Bristol are currently assembling an 1190 (not the R yet) for display but will not release it for demonstration for a short while.
Oh did anyone mention:
230Kg fully fuelled, 150bhp 125Nm torque WP shocks more specs here?
15,000km service
On paper, this 1190 could annihilate the new LC 1200GS :augie

Will do.

I really shouldn't ride the bloody thing as I don't want to like it and can't justify selling my 950

Holy mother of god-the 1190 is utterly barking .

It was the standard bike I took out as the R wasn't on demo .

The motor is insane . It feels even faster than the Multistrada yet will potter through towns in 6th at 40 mph.

Think GS and add 50% more power and that what it feels like.

It really is an RC 8 with a sit up riding position but there is a but which I will explain later . Just heading home on my SE

So anyway, yes,I tried the 1190 today.

Firstly I will say that I don not like the look of the standard bike-it's too non-descript and bland.Other criticisms-the switch gear looks a bit cheap and the ESA menu is not as intuitive as on a BMW.

But the build quality, apart from switch gear is very high and the bike is stunning to ride.

I was gobsmacked just how good the motor was, even having owned an RC8 and most KTM models from the last decade.

The 1190 motor in the Adventure is SO smooth yet will go ballistic at the twist of a wrist. If you have never ridden a KTM,you really should try this bike as it is in a different league to a GS power-wise.

Admittedly I've not ridden the lastest WC GS but I found the 1190 delivery even more urgent that that of the Multistrada.

The suspension was obviously also fabulous, being WP etc.

With the screen on the high setting I would say it's easily as good as a GS,and I'm 6'1"

I love the look of the R and it is a much better riding position for me,as it's a fair bit taller.

But it's £13195 and thats before luggage and an Akra to let the beast loose.

I can't justify £15k on a bike that is nowhere near £10k better than my 950SE.

But if I had that money lying around I would order an R tomorrow.

The 1190 motor is possibly the nicest most amazing unit I've ever experienced in any bike-just AMAZING.

Go try one !!!

That R does look nice. Wouldn't be any good for me at 5 ft 10 though:comfort
