I had the HB Xplorer topbox on my S10. Bottom plastic base cracked each corner and every rivet hole :/ wasn't abused with over loading but was used regularly . Importer view was as it was outside of warrenty (1 year) its was tough. Bought Touratech Zega Pro to replace it, which I wish I'd bought 1st time around but they weren't available then.

The Gobi's are huge in physical size relative to their actual carrying capacity, I personally wouldn't go with those again for that reason alone (although mine didn't fail at all).

I've had these panniers on my Buell for 7 years from new. They've taken some fairly hefty abuse where I've had some (too many) numpty moments and dropped the thing at standstill. They just seem to shrug it off and keep working. Only leaked a couple of times when I've not taken care to ensure they're closed properly, but you do need to be a little careful with the latch and not use it as a lever to close a very stuffed pannier.
The inset panel is removable and can be painted to match your bike if you want, and they're very easy to put on & off the bike. Also, to my knowledge, once you have the H&B frames, you then have a choice of a number of different panniers - perhaps all 3 in your pics - that will fit on the same frame. Handy if you like to change your 'touring style' :D

I'm changing bikes soon and will look at H&B luggage for the new one, I've been very happy with mine.

The R is tested in Sept issue of Bike and they reckon its better than the standard bike in all aspects !!!

I think the Adv R is even better looking than the standard bike, especially the colour scheme and was tempted to go down that route. However, I really liked the electronic suspension on the Adv which isn't an option on the R and I don't really need the more off-road bias of the R either.

Oh, this pannier system looks pretty good. :thumb2

Bike mag Sept (as Arsey says) gives the R an excellemt 'magic carpet ride' review. The Bike mag is an engrossing read this month, especially comparisons between the new Ducati Multistrada Granturismo and Aprilla Capanord 1200, then the new Superduke R 1290 prototype 'Beast', which is "5 miles loud!"
The Ducati and Capanord were also wired to eight movement sensors and tested over differing test track terrains and the graphs were interesting because we are now in an era of semi automatic suspensions. The Capanord seems to be the dogs bollocks of auto suspension and I'd like to see more comparisons now comparing it the the 1190 or even the LC BMW.
Anyhow another vid to keep on thread topic:

Met up with lads in Austria one of whom had a new Caponord, full trip it was pressurising the air box and forcing oil out of the breather tube
Apparently it is a recall on the bikes, later on it blew off the breather tube and drenched the cat with oil on the Autobahn causing a smoke screen.
Bike ended up being recovered from Dusseldorf.

Just had another demo on a standard 1190 for a few hours this afternoon.

I was actually going along with Jumpjim of this parish as he wanted to try one but unfortunately his 1200GS decided to punch a hole in one cylinder (we think) whilst he was following me on the 1190 before we swapped bikes .:blast

Steptoe will have a little job coming his way shortly !!

Meanwhile-riding the 1190 again confirmed what a stonking bike it is !!!

I'm 6'1" and with the seat on high setting and screen at highest, there was very little buffeting even at high speed.

The gear change was like butter on the 2000 miler demo-so smooth and miles better than it ever was on my RC8.

I got off thinking that perhaps I should try and get an 1190R at some point soon.

I just don't like the look of the standard bike-it's the first bike KTM have made in the last decade that if you took the badges off,it could be any brand-whereas the R screams KTM and is much more my thing ,with the higher seat and colour scheme with orange frame.

But riding home on my 950SE made me realise that £13k for the base R without panniers or any farkles is a lot of money for what my SE can do 80% of the time and I still prefer the looks of my SE.

If I could get both then great but the SE stays !!

With my 1190R now laid up waiting for a service, I decided to take the GSA12 up over the North Yorkshire Moors to Whitby, the journey took nearly 4 hours taking in mostly narrow back roads apart from some early motorway work.
This is the first time I have rode the GSA12 since getting the 1190R and they really are two very different bikes.
If I had to choose between the two as my only bike, I would pick the KTM, the BMW is good and efficient at what it does but it doesn't excite me, the KTM is a bit Jekyll and Hyde, if you want to bimble, then fine, but if you want involvement then let it loose, it's just more rewarding.

The 1190 has just covered 600 miles and is awaiting its 1st service, earliest I can get it done is in another week so hoping this warmer weather continues.
The bike has exceeded my expectations and (touching wood) has been fine with no apparent faults, just contemplating if to let my GSA12 go whilst someone else can still enjoy it this year.

So does anyone have much 2up and loaded experience yet?
