New Maps

Hi can anyone advise how I can get new maps for my 2610. It and the computer have reminded me I am due to update but when I go to the Garmin site it won't let me buy as, I presume, I got it second hand and someone else has registered it. I have another Garmin product and have a Garmin account so I'd have thought all would have been ok. Anyone know a way around this?

If you know who owned it previously and their address Garmin will usually transfer / register it to you it, I've done it twice now, once the previous owner had to ring them and tell them they had sold it to me, the 2nd I knew the address of the previous owner and they just transfered it to me over the phone, If you dont have , or cant get the previous owners details, I would suggest you ring Garmin and ask their advice.

What is the exact message you get when you try to buy an upgrade?

No map available? A message like that implies that Garmin don't want to sell City Navigator Europe 2008 to you because City Navigator Europe 2009 will soon be available.

The NT-version is already available and the old format version is typically released 2-3 months later.

Er, well, none now. I opened it up to see and reply to you but didn't get the message. So I went to Help, Check for Software Updates and it let me download an update which appears to have stuff like the newish A1/M1 link and the new bit A1 by Ferrybridge and so on??? Question now has to be how will the GPS units maps update form this or is that automatic?

And one more question please, how do I turn points of interest off or choose the ones I want? Since installing V8 it refreshes the screen very very slowly and I cant think why this would be except there are now tons of POI's?

I'm running it in Parallels latest version on an Intel Mac with Windows XP. 4GB of RAM and so on so that shouldn't be the issue.
