New member with major headache! Dead gs1250 2020

That order is for two isn't it??

I'm happy to go halfs with you if you only want one..........I only live down the road from you (in fact work over in Whitely)

Sure no problem, its for a pack of four, expected delivery from USA on 6th March.

If I can find some 1-5/8" dia pipe at work, I can mount in the lathe and trim to exact length with a scalpel for a neat finish.

I'm close to Titchfield so an easy ride from Whiteley.

Tea or Coffee ??

Seen the picture, the plastic box seems easy to open, there are screws and clips, but unless you are veeeery lucky, the thermal event that burned a hole in the plastics has probably damaged the circuit board. You can try to open, extract the board and visually inspect it, but you will probably have to bring it to a specialist to verify it.

Well tell my mate too please because he never shuts up about his days being a stoker (I don't think you know him as he left in the late 80s)
You never know, to quote Sir John Mills as Shorty Blake from In Which We Serve .... "It's a small world and no error."

(I might know him, coming from the same background and serving throughout the 80's.)

A that was for a second hand full lock set! was luckily the only set up available for sale on eBay! Snapped it strait up I was thinking I’d gather back most my money if it wasn’t the issue with a re sale soo took the chance

Now it’s out a definitely diagnosed as a problem I’m going too try an have it repaired yes! Soo hopefully it can be as the price of these parts is outrageous

Now that the module is out, is there any way it may be opened and inspected? I don't expect that whats in there is too complicated. If you luck out, it may be just a corroded track, which may be repaired... (or not  ).
Fingers crossed it can be fixed

You got a full set, so

- keyless button
- tank lid
- ecu for immobilizer
- key (both plastic and remote key)
- seat post lock

as an advice when all is installed go to a dealer to verify that there are no other keys coded to your immo, and maybe add to the records all this, so if you need a duplicate key from bmw they can do it. A good idea is also to keep the ebay receipt.

Just out of curiosity: Did you have to go through an ID procedure against the bike computers, or did it fire up right away?

The reason for my asking is that in the BMW rep-DVD they list connection to the BMW Motorrad system as a required item, but it does not make sense...

Did you not get a quote from the main dealer for the part?

It may have been a tad cheaper

Seems like instead of replacing the keyless unit only, he took the route to buy a full set from eBay..in this case the keyless unit should be already paired with the ECU..

Well done OP for getting this fixed, could of been a major headache.....

But! What functions does the keyless `ignition switch` that the OP has replaced perform?
It obviously turns the bikes electrical system on after the `handshake` has been completed but anything else contained within?

I think it`s got the gubbins for the electrically-operated steering lock.
Has it got an antenna for the immobiliser like Hexheads have?
Has it got a receiver for the keyless fobs` radio frequency?
What is the purpose of the antenna under the seat - is that the `main` receiver for the keyless system or an additional one for emergencies only (lost fob scenario)?
