New r1250 gs withheld

Large boxes, and bags on the rear do tend to have strange effects on different bikes, must admit the GS feels planted, however when 2 up and loaded speed is never over 130 km/h

A couple of years ago I cruised for a few minutes down an autobahn on my Crosstourer at 200kmh fully loaded and two up just to see, it was as steady as a rock and totally comfortable, still had plenty left in reserve

Don’t think I’ve ever had the GS over about 160kmh and generally as you say don’t normally exceed 130 ish

How fast is fast, and what luggage & windscreen did you have on the bike?
About 85......had bread bins on ktm but not loaded......standard screen. Accept it didn’t wobble as a bare bike but what use is that ?
For what it’s worth tho...quick shift pissed all over the Shite bmw attempt.....

BMW should be more concerned about the stability of their owners if they’re all mentalist cockwombles like you ! :-)

It’s really funny the way the GS knockers on this site become all defensive when you point out the problems with their bikes - if they can’t take it then they shouldn’t be dishing it out. :)

Bloody hell :blast :potkettle

Got rid of my KTM1290 sas......accelerated fast onto M1 ...hit third lane and it shook like a shitting dog....I had to gently ease off down to 60 whilst all the world passed on the inside thinking what the fek is he doing........not a good feeling.
Old gsa used to weave very slightly with luggage on and front bar bags at around 95....... nothing compared to the orange beast....... had new 1250 gsa to 130 and purrrrrfect.......

The KTM indicate the max recommended speed with luggage in the owners manual, it’s a lot lower than the recommendation for the modern GS’s - I pointed this out ages ago on another thread. BMW clearly go to much greater lengths with wind tunnel testing to ensure high speed stability than KTM do - KTM prefer to boast about power rather than real world practical use.

Might be able to push it a bit more later, when I get some heavier springs on the soft 80kg set ESA Sachs, you can feel the front slighly raised when at full load, I am sure the heavier set springs, will sort this out, if all fails, must cut down on the Choucroute......;)

Perhaps it’s all this extensive wind tunnel testing that makes the paint fall off ?

KTM also refused bikes to charlie and ewan, as they didnt think the bikes would make it :D

And it’s lucky for them that they did the trip in the days of the 1150.
If they tried to do it now on shitcams, the bikes wouldn’t even leave the showroom.

KTM didn't think Ewan and Charlie would be committed enough for a Round the World Trip... and they didn't want the publicity of a failed attempt. They had no worries about their bikes, they just had worries of two untrained and inexperienced idiots fucking up their brand name.

Very arrogant and short sighted, as most of BMW's customer base now is full of cash-rich untrained and inexperienced idiots fucking up their brand name :D ... but they have money, and helped BMW build a lifestyle.

... and all this did with Ewan and Charlie was fire up the pair into a determination to prove them wrong....

BMW were just a bystander at that point.

Charlie dropped his BMW bike with ZERO miles on it.... KTM Execs must have pissed themselves laughing at that point... oh, how it backfired

Do you remember how angry Charlie was, ripping KTM Posters off his office walls.... KTM was his dream bike !!

What a fuckup from KTM

The production crew wanted the 2 bikes and sponsorship money which KTM felt was not worth it as it was at that time a proven bike and the brand didn't need the publicity. There is an article somewhere that explains what was going on behind the scenes. Lot of it was just putting on a show. The upset was that KTM told them in no uncertain terms that they would not sponsor 2 inexperienced wannabees. That bit was never told in the storyline. It turned out a masterstroke by BMW for publicity and gave false hope to many idiots. Meanwhile the best bike BMW ever produced just finished as a race series and would be discontinued in about a years time.

Yeah, it was mentioned.

I'm sure I remember Charlie fuming, and somebody asked him why KTM had pulled out. He said "because they think we won't make it round"

He was fuming..... and right up until that point, the pair of them had been giggling and messing about with the training. So the message was there....

That's what I took from the storyline... and KTM gave them that fire in their belly to do it.... on a BMW

I might go and stick it on the telly and watch it all over again actually :D - it's that good :D :D

The entire trip was primarily a TV show. In addition to the two bikes we saw, they brought a photographer on a third bike, and they brought a support crew in two Landcruisers. I find it hard to believe they would ever have made it without this extra support. The bike is just too heavy for this type of riding.

That said, in ADVrider, this guy WC have made the rides in Siberia several times. Back in 2012, there was a guy joining his team half way. He brought a KTM 640 with adventure gear. A great looking bike.
The bike was brought to their meeting point by train. When they continued the ride, the bike made it 300m before it stopped. They got it running again, but the bike was towed more than it would run on it's own.
In all fairness though, the flaw this bike suffered from appears to be sorted out by now.

This is where it all started folks.

Friday 13th ...... the day KTM handed over their business to BMW

Good job they did.
KTM are already the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in Europe. Just think if all of the cûnts who bought GSs off the back of LWR and LWD had bought KTMs instead.......

(KTM sold 261,000 bikes in 2018 compared to 165,000 by BMW.)

So... That means that there are more cünts on KTM than BMW
