Good point ! Mikeyboy, Ive decided I dont want that piece of shite you built me because it doesnt come with a 3 year warranty and SOS button !!
That's a nice specimen of an old GS, and by the looks of it, it probably looks better than when it was new.
Being the owner of a 90S I can appreciate the feeling of riding the old bikes. They where well built, and if you want a reliable oldtimer, the old BMWs certainly will serve the purpose with their automobile style electrics and shaft drive that swims in oil (stopped with the paralever).
Some people claims the old ones where "THE BIKES". We tend to forget that even the old ones where modified. As an example, the 90S was launched late -73, and was modified/improved every year, and improvements continued when it turned into 100S, and so on...Even so, even the -74 was and is a good bike...
But, as good as they where at their time, the newer ones in my experience are even better. The newer engines are better in every way. The newer engines needs less maintenance and are able to run longer before needing overhaul (I have tried the whole scale, so this is a statement based on personal experience, not some statement based on what I have read on Internet). Not to mention the frame, suspension and general equipment.
Comparing the old GS to the newest ones will be a bit like comparing DOS6 to WIN10.
There where just as many/few problems with the old ones. But since we did not have internet, we didn't have to relate to all the assholes that just whine, based on what they have read rather than based on experience.
I realize that the new bikes are not without flaws, but neither where the "good old ones".
Anyway. Back to the one in the picture. I'm sure it will provide the rider with lots of fun, and it looks like it's well taken care of
